I was wondering if i could use a sub-domain of my main website domain to create extra sites and still be able to rank in the search engines if the main domain had some keyword
You can make up to 25 websites, this includes subdomains. Each site is treated individually.
Each page or post has chances to rank in the search engines, no matter whether that post or page is on either domain or subdomain. Domains and subdomains do not share a ranking or influence each other by themselves. The content is what makes you rank.

Using subdomains for building extra sites?
I was wondering if i could use a sub-domain of my main website domain to create extra sites and still be able to rank in the search engines if the main domain had some keyword
In old days I saw people doing that..for example you have a site https://abc.com and a sub-domain of https://blog.abc.com. But I seldom see them these days unless for giant sites where they have too big categories to fit into the main domain.
Any reason for having the sub-domain?

I have already got a domain and hosting with another webhost and by the time australian dollars convert to us currency it will get expensive.If i can use subdomains as complete niche sites and still rank well, it just gives me more options while i,m starting out.
I can see where you come from.
I still believe sub-domain can be ranked if the content are good. It might take longer to be seen by G and other Search Engines. With right strategies, that should be still possible.
