For example I'm about to write a new post relating to a product and
I would find a way to work them both in. Not right next to each other, of course, but spaced well apart in your review.
Where both of your keywords are so similar, I think that it would be prudent to rank for both of them. And yes, I agree, you should get more traffic that way for both keywords
Thanks for your response dcomeau. I think the longer and more specific the keyword (without going overboard) seems to be the best strategy. So I'm just gonna go with the longer one and see what happens.

When you are publishing new posts regularly, Google will remind your other posts too
