Practice Makes Perfect

Blogging. It's a daunting word. For me, there were so many things that made it seem so difficult.
- It has to be interesting enough so people want to keep reading.
- It has to be pretty. Nobody wants to just look at words on a page.
- I have to learn to use all of those editing functions.
WHAT IF MY WRITING ISN'T INTERESTING??
This thought is scary enough to put the others on the backburner. There are a lot of great writers out there. I love to read and I know this is a fact. I know I'm not trying to win a Pulitzer or anything, but let's face it, this has to be all me! I can't copy and paste from everybody else. I have to create something myself that intrigues readers. People are reading this to get my thoughts. They are hoping to connect with or learn from what I'm writing. Am I qualified to do this? Strangely, yes I think I am. I have just had this epiphany. I am writing my thoughts and I am the only one who is qualified to share that. Obviously, because until I share them, nobody else knows what thoughts are swimming around in my head.
WHAT DO THOSE BUTTONS MEAN?
Header sizes, Bold, Underline, Italics, Alignment, Link, Lists, Line, Images.... What do I use and when? How do I know if I haven't vamped things up enough or have I overdone it?
The truth is, I don't think we ever really know. There really aren't any rules. Each piece we create will need its own look. We just keep practicing. We keep writing and do what is comfortable for us (hopefully the true comfort comes sooner than later). We ask our peers for their thoughts and comments. We take criticism and use it to make things better. Ultimately, there is always room for improvement. Maybe starting out scared is what we need. Maybe that actually helps some of us to start. It gave me something to write about.
This is totally out of my comfort zone but I'm not going to give up.
I meant what I said - I want to grow as a writer. I would appreciate your questions and comments.
