The Defining Moment - When I Really Knew I Wanted This
After 30 days of continuous training and learning here at Wealthy Affiliate, I knew I wanted to keep doing this and make my blog a full time job. I also knew that it would take time and I would need to work hard to be successful at it, but I wasn't in any hurry.
My husband works 5 days a week as a Produce Manager and I work on his 2 days off as a Pharmacy Technician. We never get to spend time as a family, so when my husband had a manager meeting scheduled on his original day off, I decided to only work the one day and we could take advantage of his other day off together! It was a perfect day as a family, no company, just us. We slept in (as late as the baby would let us), had a big breakfast, took a walk around the park, grilled out while the baby splashed in his little pool and enjoyed some quiet time while we indulged in an ice cream. It really was the perfect day.
Unfortunately, my 1 day work week put us in a HUGE financial bind. Without going into too much detail, let's just say that I have had $0 in my account for 2.5 weeks straight and my husbands account dried up by the second week after paying rent. I packed my husbands lunch today and it included a bag of herb crackers, a pack of graham crackers and a jar of trail mix. We literally have been living off pennies.
We have both been working for Publix for 11 years and have earned a great income with them through stock and benefits, but for the first time we had washed out every cent we earned and had no emergency savings or available credit cards to keep us afloat until next weeks paycheck.
All because we wanted to have a family day off together. How sad is that?
We didn't go blow all our money gambling or buying new clothes. We didn't get sick and end up with a giant hospital bill (although we still have a ways to go on paying off our son's birth). We didn't loan out money to friends or family. I just took a day off.
This was my DEFINING moment. As I packed my husbands "snack pack" and looked at the $3 in my wallet for my lunch tomorrow, I realized that I didn't want to ever be in this situation again. I want financial freedom as well as family time. I want to be able to take a day off or not work at all and never worry that it will cause us financial stress. I want to be successful at this.
Wealthy Affiliate did not just fall into my lap on accident. I had been talking about starting a blog and working from home for a very long time and when my friend sent me an article that linked me to WA, it was fate.
I am more determined than ever to work hard and put all my effort into making this a success.
Stay tuned as I wrap up my training and continue working with WA!
