Deal Makers Are Deal Breakers
In moments of quiet desperation, we’ve all tried to make our deals with God.
We often start with: “O God, if you get me out of this mess, I promise I’ll quit...?”
It’s understandable that we would pray to stop suffering. But what comes next?
Are we ready to change our lives, or are we planning to continue doing the exact same things that created the mess that seems, sometimes, too impossible to get out of?
Prayer is not our chance to hustle God into doing what we want just so we can feel better.
It has to be more than a desire to stop hurting. Our prayers need to focus on a new willingness to live differently rather than trying to finesse God with our one-sided deals.
Such self-serving prayers have kept us trapped in insanity for years.
To stay sane, we need to reverse this pattern and consider the deal that God is offering us today: a chance to live right for the rest of our lives.
That’s a fantastic deal.
However, this one needs to be based on the daily practice of praying for knowledge of God’s will for us.
So let us stop trying to make deals with God that are based solely on our own self-seeking and selfishness.
Let us continue to ask for the willingness to be selfless, walk honest and seek the knowledge of God’s will for us to accomplish this task before us.
