My passion is computers
My passion is computers and anything that has to do with computers, including the software they need to run on. I bought my first PC in July, 1998, and haven't looked back since, because withing a year I was on the Internet, and within 3 years from then I put together my first "state-of-the-art" machine.
Back in 1998 I paid $40 for an old IBM PC/XT (Model 5160, ca. 1983) that my ex-wife bought from a mutual friend and since neither one of us knew anything about computers I decided to buy if from her so I could figure out how to use it, and teach her after I did. Needless to say she's very happy that I bought it from her since she's been using an AMD-based system that I built from scratch and sold her about 5 years ago. (As of this writing this AMD system is the only machine I've ever owned that has yet to need Windows re-installed. It's that reliable of a system.)
Since I didn't have the money to go to school I taught myself everything I know about computer systems and how they function. It turned out to be a very good time to own one of these IBM dinosaurs because it seems as though all my neighbors were throwing them away wholesale which benefited me greatly by giving me plenty of parts to experiment with. This machine had green text on a black background and was basically the same type of machine you'd have seen in the Post Office back in the '80's.
This "PC", or personal computer, had a CPU, or central processing unit, that ran at a "blazing" 8 MHz and a total of 256 K of RAM, or memory. To understand the basics of computers you should learn a little bit of the basic math which is where I'm going to start in my next post.

I do remember the 256 K I bought a couple for my business but the whole package was some where around $3000.00
