Hi all,

A week ago I posted here about the discrepancy between members I am following and members following me.

Then I found 52 people who had started following me but I not them yet. So I rapidly fixed this.

Of course, I was puzzled about how I could have missed so many.

A few days later, the quarter dropped. Nearly all of the 52 started following me during the time I was inactive on WA due to eye problems.

Well this is a relief. I´ve not turned into a sloppy individual after all.

Now there was only one thing left to investigate. How come I was following more members than were following me?

This task took quite a bit longer. I opened both the following-list and the followers one in a separate page. Then I compared the two and noticed a few remarkable things.

• On two dozen occasions (at least), someone I was following did not show up in this particular list until I reloaded the page.
• Not once did this happen in the list of folks following me.
• The individuals not following me back were far mostly ranked low, didn´t have a profile, had very few followers and were following even fewer, usually didn´t have any badges, didn´t have their site ranked in Google, and only very few were premium members. Also they had been inactive for over 5, 6 or 7 months. I unfollowed all of them so as to unclutter my who-I-am-following list. After doing this, both lists were almost in balance.
• Several of the higher and highly ranked active members on my list weren´t following me. After some contemplation, I unfollowed them as well, with the exception of one brand new member.

Now why would I unfollow highly ranked active members? They might have lots interesting and useful stuff to share. Well, it´s really simple: I´m all for balance in any relationship.

I also noticed that having (many) followers is deemed much more important than the following you do yourself. I´ve never seen a blog post in WA announcing: I´m following 5000 now!!!

Hey now! .... the list that used to come up was the followers list. Not so now, everything is different here all of sudden!

They changed it all!

But really, have you ever had that while you were writing a post on a certain something, everything about that certain something suddenly and unexpectedly changed so your post became obsolete before you even posted it?!?

Now Whaaat!?!

I´ll add a picture of the new situation, so you can see with your own eyes how things are looking now.

No more lists, just pictures with screen names.

And did you notice the balance?

I follow 715 and 715 follow me.
