How google search works?

This is more of a question then me unveiling some pearl of wisdom upon you all! So, when you start typing a search in google I was always under the impression that the suggested searches google lists are ranked by popularity (number of people searching those exact words or key phrases). I am getting the impression now that I have been wrong all this time. Does anyone know how exactly google provides those suggestions? It sounds too easy for people like us here at Wealthy Affiliate to utilize google and figure out the best key words/phrases if this were actually the case.

That's it! "Google Instant". It makes sense to me that it is used as a keyword suggestion tool. I was just trying to think outside the box, but I see you and probably many others have already used this idea. At least I know I wasn't crazy for thinking it may work - thanks for the reply.

to make life easier, try ubersuggest.org which basically does the same thing for you, but a lot faster.

You're talking about "Google Instant" which is based on what other people are searching for and popularity etc. It's useful for finding keyword suggestions and a lot of us have used it for that reason. It is in no way useful for learning the strength of a keyword though

Sorry, I didn't really explain that very well. I know that there is some what of a science to the actual results on google once you enter in your search, but when you begin typing a search in the google search bar, suggested search terms will come up that google provides. This comes up before your actually complete the search and I thought maybe it was ranked with a similar system that the search results are ranked by.

I see what you are saying. Okay that stuff I am not sure about. Perhaps additional training will shed some light on that topic.:-) There is so much to learn here- sometimes I get a bit overwhelmed!

I'm certainly NO expert so take this with a grain of salt. As you probably already know, the top highlighted links and side bar links are paid suggestions. As for the rest, while I do not know EXACTLY at all, I believe that popularity and quality SEO determines the positioning of the websites and ranking. Basically, the websites that carry the most Clout on a given search topic and that have the best Search Engine Optimization will out rank the rest. At least, that is as much as I have been able to glean from the few training tutorials I have read. ;-)
