Was There a Memo I Missed???

I would like to see what others think of this:

It seems to me that there is a contest here at WA that I'm not aware of, that being, whomever reaches the finish line with the most follows and followers ...... WINS!

Is there some benefit to a large number here that I'm not aware of? It doesn't increase your ranking as far as I can see. Is this just a carry over from FaceBook?

I understand the sense of community that is promoted and encouraged among us, and I appreciate it - please don't get me wrong here. BUT, what I am seeing in some member's profiles is a bit puzzling to me.

I get it that those who have been with WA for years will have many, many followers (and will be following many as well). Yet when I come across those who have been here for around the same length of time as me (about 5 weeks) and have over 30,000 people that they are following - I have to scratch my head.

When we are just getting started with WA and have so much to learn and work to do, I can't fathom how one can do this and find time to worry about followers. Is it the case where one is just clicking "follow" and not adding a note along with it? Must be.

That I also can't wrap my head around. Wouldn't it show more of a genuine interest and desire to follow someone, if you took the time to read about them, their story, their interests and then add even a small personal comment along with your request to follow?

Quality Over Quantity

This is a little saying or motto that I like to subscribe to. I don't feel the need to click the "follow" button as many times as possible just to see that number get as high as possible.

For me, personally, I prefer to add those to my circle that I have some sort of resonance with, spend a bit less time (at least now in the beginning) with the size of my circle,

and spend more time focusing on learning what needs to be done to achieve my goals within WA.

But hey - this is how I think about this, and I realize that everyone has their own thoughts about this (and many other topics too). If we all thought alike, it would be a pretty boring world - wouldn't you say?!

OK - I've aired my thoughts, now back to my training.

If you have a perspective on this that I'm not seeing - please share!

Happy affiliating everyone ;)

Tom

It makes sense whatever point you have mentioned. I am one from the younger generations but whatever point you said I totally agree. Since whatever people you follow you must have a comfort to gain knowledge from. I indeed agree that whomever you follow should have expertise in your own niche and vision to make you a successful person.

Thanks for making a sensible point and educating our new generations.

Best wishes.

You make a valid point. When I follow anyone, I usually write an encouraging note. If I’ve read their profile, I say what resonates with me. If I follow someone without a message it’s because they followed me first and I want to reciprocate. But I get back to them later on a personal level.

I agree that following people just to get more followers is pointless. Thanks for bringing this up.

Cheers!

I agree with you totally. I have been here for 9 months and I have 500 in my circle, each one chosen for a reason.

Quality over Quantity.

I see the same thing going on too. I am not sure what it is. I do know that the majority of the people that followed me, just followed. With no note, until I reached out to them, there was no speaking between the two of us. Until I followed them back and introduced myself. It doesnt really bother me. I follow everyone back. The only thing I can think of by having lots of followers, is you'll be able learn new things from those followers, if they are posting blogs and trainings. Other than that I haven't figured out what else it could be. Great post, by the way!

Thank you Lakisha for your thoughts!

I thought of gaining more knowledge too, by being informed when those in your circle post something. And yet, to take the time to read the daily onslaught of messages, blog, posts etc can border on the overwhelming - and I only have 137 that I am following LOL

All the best,
Tom

You're welcome! I agree, it is very overwhelming. I can't read everyone blogs post. I wish you continued success.
