AdSense or NonSense?

I have reached a stumbling block in Course 3, Lesson 8, that deals with AdSense.

Being green to all things having to do with this entire realm, I committed to myself from the beginning, to work through each step to the end and learn all that I could to make this process easier.

That was the case until I hit this AdSense wall! To be honest, the training around this topic was a bit unclear to me. So as I have before when I get stuck, I reached out to the community for answers, tips, suggestions. I found some answers that helped (maybe enough for me to figure it out) and others that reinforced my uncertainty.

Without enough clarity on exactly how to install AdSense into my posts, or the reason for doing it in the first place - I sat on this, slept on it, and have now made my decision.

Recall what Kyle (and others) told me/us early on - "complete each part of every lesson before moving on"? And another bit of advice of "think of your habits and experiences when being an online consumer".

I first considered the 2nd bit of advice and thought of how I feel when seeing web pages plastered with Adsense. I find it rather annoying.

That leads me to the "complete each part" bit. One of the tasks to be ticked off is to insert AdSense in 2 posts. Since I would rather not have AdSense be a part of my online presence, at this point, I will not be doing this step. But the moral dilemma is that I have to tick all the boxes as completed, in order to move on to the next lesson.

Being one not one to cheat, but I feel I need to make an exception here. If, in the future, I find it makes sense to Ad(d)Sense, I will come back to this segment of the training and by then, it will most likely make more sense at that time.

I've been given advice from more than one person here, that AdSense isn't worth the hassle. I know everyone has their own opinion and experience, and it's like asking for a review of a movie - some love it, some hate it, and others are left on the fence.

Being one staying away from AdSense right now.

What are your thoughts? Did you like this movie or not? lol

Moving right along........

Tom

I don’t see anything here to fully support it yet. I haven’t put it on either. If there is anyone out there that strongly recommends please join the conversation and tell us why. Cheers now. AJ

I have just done the same Denise
one link so far,
I am a bit worried as to what adverts they will put on my site and whether I have any control over them, Takes me ages to fathom out how to do things so if I am not happy with Adsense I will have to work out how to remove it!

Another great point Louise -
If they put a product advert on your site that you would never subscribe to, you lose control of your site, plus it could turn off potential customers that wanted to buy what you are promoting in the first place.

Just added the link yesterday and unhappy with the ads that are going on my site,
going to remove the link if I can

I'm feeling better and better about my decision.

Thank for your feedback ;)

I believe one can have more control on Ads and even design your own within the Adsense page on Google but I don't have the technical ability to do that as yet.
I too will come back to it, there are more important things for me to do right now.
Enjoy your day
Louise

Hi I have just been through the same dilemma and ended up putting Adsense on my website. However, I have only put in one link, I am not sure how much advertising this will cause on my site. If I am accepted I will view my site and see how I feel. I can always remove it. It is your site and personal choice, do what you are comfortable with.

If I decide to add it later, I might be asking you Denise, for how-to's ;)

Thanks a lot for this post. I have been very much in doubt as well. I didn't reach this lesson in my own training yet, but I obviously come upon it in many other places.
My thoughts were very similar to the ones you lay out, and a lot of the answers you're getting, makes things a lot clearer to me. ;) So thanks again.

Best wishes,
Michael

That's great Michael - I'm glad others are learning from this right along with me ;)

Take care,
Tom

adsense will have to decide if your site is at its peak adsense will accept your application but in my case adsense did not accept my application. I have to tey again next time.

From what I am gathering from comments is that traffic flow and content dictate your acceptance or denial?

If you really want it on your site, I hope they take you on next time!

soon hopefully.

Everyone's website is their own. I've gone through courses here as well and if there's something recommended that I don't want on my site at the time, I click the box and move on. If I decide later that I want it on, like Google Adsense, then I'll put it on. Google Adsense may be recommended at a certain point in your training but if you don't want it on your site, you can click the box and move on to the next task. Hope this helps. Alanna

Thank you Alanna.

I didn't want 40 lashes for breaking some unwritten law here lol

Makes sense what you're saying!

My best,
Tom

Hey Tom. Keep in mind that everything recommended here in the training is done for a reason. And the reason usually is that these are tried and tested tasks. Not adding Google Adsense now means that you are delaying potential revenue. But again it's a personal choice.

Noted!
I may be coming back to this training sooner than later, but for now, to move forward and make overall progress, I'll jump over this one ;)

Thanks Alanna

Hi Tom - I’ve left it out for now too. Aside from being a bit confusing, I didn’t want to jump into adding these intrusive ads into my site either - although I do have some affiliate banners and images with links that are fairly passive and don’t take away from the overall feel of my site.

Like you, if I want to go down that path in future, I will revisit it at that time.

Cheers, Mary-Louise

We're on the same page ;)

Cheers!
Tom

Adsense Is a great way to make side money on your blog. However, you need a ton of traffic to your website to see any kind of monetary results. The CTR is very low and sometimes websites that are cluttered with ads just turn people away, so you have the right mindset.

When I just started out, I too found it quite overwhelming.

I suggest that you keep going and concentrate on your website and creating quality content and eventually come back to this part when you are good and ready as you said.🙂

I like your thinking.

I'm glad I posted this to find I'm not alone in how I'm looking at this.

Cheers!
Tom

I don't use adsence on my website. It's perfectly ok not to.

The reason it is in the training is because you get paid when someone clicks on one of the adverts but you will need a fair bit of traffic for it to be worth while.

You can always book mark that section and come back to it when your website is more established if you wish.

Best of luck

Will do/have done.
Thanks!
