Cycles of Productivity

Does anyone else feel like they go through phases of high productivity followed by relative inaction for several months?

This is something I've been struggling with a bit over the past 6 months. Last winter, my sole focus was on writing for clients and producing content for my websites. Then I moved from Costa Rica back to the states and started working as a full-time outdoor guide again. Needless to say, I've had very little time to devote to my websites and affiliate marketing as a result.

It has been bothering me more than I've let on. My goal is for my websites, writing services, and books to be producing a sustainable income on a monthly basis. I'm still not there. But I've only been dedicated to producing content that converts on my sites for a little over a year now. I'd be lying if I said that the question of whether I'm doing something wrong hasn't popped into my head.

I love seeing the success stories here on WA, but when my own payments for just $13 from Amazon and $73 from other affiliates came in last month, I couldn't help but feel like I'm missing something.

I know that my productivity levels are cyclical and I'm excited to have more time to work on my projects over the winter. But I wonder often about the benefit of giving up my steady paycheck and just jumping into affiliate marketing and producing online courses full-time.

For about 5 years now, I've been focused on diversifying my income streams. I have four websites dedicated to different affilialte marketing niches, two paperback books for sale on Amazon and four e-books on my personal websites, I write as a freelancer for three online publications, and I still work part-time as a guide.

The question of whether I'm trying to diversify TOO much has, indeed, been coming up for me a lot recently. But I can't decide what I would sacrifice in order to free up more time.

Does anyone have experience with over-diversifying and have any good advice they can offer? Thanks a bunch in advance!

Tucker,

First let me say that I'm very impressed with your resume and I would give anything to have your work week, particularly over my 9-5, where I have a 1.5 hour one way commute. And I would be estatic with a single $100 month. But all in due time.

My point is that you should be very pleased with where you are and I do recommend that you focus on a single income stream as your primary goal and grow it until it can support itself. In other words at $500/month, you can hire a full time writer to build the site and then move your focus to another income stream.

Just some thoughts, Glenn

I love that idea Glenn! (writing it down now!) And I also appreciate your reminder to be grateful for how far I've come and where I'm currently at in this journey. I suppose that maintaining patience has always been one of my largest challenges, and this situation is no different than others I've been through before!
