Need to angst

Fell in love with a theme that was being offered for free on Themeforest and downloaded it: themeforest.net/item/melica-responsive-wordpress-blog-theme/11403244

Installed the theme on my new website last week perfectly. Happily started customizing the theme to suit my liking.

Updated to Wordpress 4.5.2 last week also. Didn't have any problems.

Today: Wordpress refused to let me into my website - HTTP ERROR 500. Seems like my theme is incompatible somehow. Thanks to WA Support I managed to log in but I had revert to the default Twenty Sixteen theme (losing all the customizations to the problematic theme in the process, sighhhh).

I thought perhaps the problem was that I didn't have the latest version of the theme (free themes don't come with updates and the version I downloaded had been updated since then). So I bit the bullet and purchased the theme.

Tried installing the purchased theme. Many times. Still no go. It's not a conflicting plugin issue.

Sigh..... I don't suppose anybody wants to buy a theme off me? :(

Sorry to hear this. I understand your frustration. Many tears and expletives have been shed over WordPress. If you know of any good training about customizing themes easily, let me know! (This goes to anyone else who might be reading this.)

@Fit4Twins, I contacted support for my theme and they were able to help me out. :) What exactly about theme customizations do you want to know? I can try to help out.

Thanks for your helpful response, tansa! I hadn't thought about contacting support, perhaps because my issues are not necessarily technical. I am trying to figure out how to customize certain colors, post sections, and photo selection for my Simply Read theme. I have found related strings on WordPress, but I am not finding some of the menus or options described. I suppose it's a learning curve I'll have to overcome on my own.

Looks like you'll have to learn more about editing CSS. The learning curve can be pretty steep, but once you understand how it roughly works things will be a lot easier! :)
