Sit Still and Write
It seems to take a certain amount of courage and confidence to sit down and write. The main ingredient to writing a successful blog is to ...ahem...write. Why is it such a difficult thing when so many ideas are rattling around in my head? If I could figure out how to downsize my photos I would show you a picture of a pile of notebooks, journals, scratchpads, and sticky notes with ideas about what to write. There are 33 of them within arms reach and some of them are full. There is also that whiteboard in the other room that is always full of budding brilliance.
So why do I only have 8 mediocre blog posts finished? I get up at 5 am to write and learn how to run a website. I recently quit my day job and I am going to work as a contractor so I can have more time to write. Not just blogs, my real dream is to write novels. It is not far-fetched to do this, go into a bookstore or a library, it happens all the time.
Part of my problem is the amount of things I try to do at once. If I had the opportunity to just write one blog and finish my WA training maybe I would be on my way. But that is too simple for me. I work 2 jobs, started 2 novels and 4 blogs all while I still have my WA training wheels on. Progress is very slow and I am well aware that working on one thing would be more productive. Or would it?
The ideas are random and they come when they come. With my attention wandering from one realm to the next it has never been within my ability to focus on one thing for long. I can only sit for about 2 hours and if I have been productive I am exhausted. Going for a run or eating helps get me back on track but I have never had more than 2 hrs at a time to write so I am not sure what happens next.
It takes courage to create something that you will put on the world stage and it takes confidence to write things you have experienced. A vast population can read and think about your ideas. It takes energy from you to develop and fine tune a niche and a brand. No wonder most blogs fail or quit. It is a much bigger project than it looks.
Keep going. Sit still and write.
