Happy Labor Day
This weekend in America, we celebrate Labor Day.
We Americans are somewhat of a strange breed, it seems. But Labor Day is celebrated at the end of Summer, and it is the final holiday weekend to enjoy before fall.
It was started to "honor the social and economic achievements of American workers," that's what Bing says!
I know I am old, but I wasn't there. I have pictures of my grandfather in the 1900s who drove an ice cream truck from town to town, and my grandmother who started a store in a neighborhood to help earn a living.
It was hard in the world back then to earn enough to live. In time, workers gathered together and the labor movement was started.
Now you know all you really didn't need to know. But when you go out this weekend, cook out, and enjoy the holiday off, remember and thank all those who hold down a job just to enjoy life and provide for their family.
By the way, I am retired and not sure what a holiday is anymore.
God bless
Ray

I loved that you helped us reminding all the people in the past who challenged the status quo to get human right for everyone!
I hope that the same awareness could raise again in these negative times where it seems that old values like human respect, dignity and work and LIFE have no meaning anymore!
Hey, Ray, thank you and Bing for sharing this. In my part of the world, people don't retire as yet, no matter what age. And at the WA, it seems we don't retire as well. We still work to earn a living, but much easier that in those days as were referring to.
I was telling a Kenyan cook a few minutes ago never to take their resources for granted, and she looked at me in awe. I explained that life is easier this end where you can eat food and just press a button on your phone, and boom! You have paid to the bank account of the restaurant, while in South Sudan, you must withdraw cash first before you pay.
We are still coming.
For me, I don't know what holidays are either because very day is a chance to live, a holiday by itself, if days are truly holly as the English word seem to preach. Anyway, those are just my thoughts. Happy Labor [or Labour?] Day!
John
Have a good Labour Day Weekend Ray. Why is there the image have 1st May? And why is it spelt labor in the US and labour in the UK?
Rick
We Americans just love to change the English spellling. I guess those that did it just wanted to be ornery.
Thanks for the reminder Ray. I'm now living outside the USA and forgot about Labor Day.

I am retired too, Ray! I worked fifty years to reach that goal.
Summer holidays to me mean the RV parks I try to stay in as I travel the US are busy during those times. 😂😆
so true. enjoy traveling around.
