Creating Content-what i learned today onlie

Creating good content for your readers can be a challenge, at least for me but today in an article written on the e-learning industry there were six points to keep in mind:

Content Chunking they called it. it involves keeping information in chunks and on point so it is easier for people to digest. first introduced in 1956 by George A Miller who suggested our working memory can hold a finite number of items. once that number is hit you get Cognitive Overload and in todays' techno laden world I think were all there before lunch!

1. Brains have their limits and many believe that its able to carry only 3 to 5 bits of information at a time. so if you limit your chunks to 5 items or less there will be a higher chance of an e-learner retaining that information. try to stay within the cognitive boundaries and stick to a chunking limit.

2. Its a good idea to create a list of your desired outcome or goal and then add 3 to 5 related concepts which tie into that objective. gather all your activities-online assessments and multimedia and determine how they fit into the picture to support the learning objective.

3. Build a solid foundation. Build on peoples preexisting knowledge. Summarize your content Briefly and move to the first subtopic, then next and so on. start simply and work your way up to the more complex ideas. What is the task, how long will it take, what steps are involved. then highlight the parts of the first step in details, once that is mastered move forward.

4. Stay On Topic- that ones my big challenge. each content chunk should focus on one subject or task. if your supporting data doesn't match the focus of the task then get rid of it, at least there. I often over talk a subject because I am afraid of forgetting or leaving something out, but when you do this you run the risk of overload and loose the learning objective you want to convey.

5. Make it Micro-you want to reduce seat time while at the same time improve comprehension of your message. by keeping chunks small you add the need to know information only. make sure your information doesn't get so small that it becomes confusing. you need to get the necessary information in there.

6. Key Points- I know I often disconnect when a page gets to long. I don't want to have to sift through tons of information to get to the point you will loose me and ill be on to an easier subject. I want people to absorb what I'm telling them so learning to use lists, headers, tables, etc. will help me to impart the main idea or concept cleanly.

you will find most or more of this information on a website called elearningindustry. It is my hope that by reiterating it here I am able to absorb it into my own memory and use these concepts to improve my webpages. I know I've been told these things over and over but until i deliver on them ill just keep sharing Who better to share with than the folks at WA!

Have a great energy day

First you have to source your content whether from your own experience or the media. Once obtained you have to coherently focus it so that others can relate to it and a message driven home. Spot on information Nemaste!
