It is a reference from an old movie. When we have technical problems with the computer, we blame the gremlins.

they are beautiful little creatures (from the film Gemlins) that when they are fed or get water after midnight turn into little monsters and they detroy stuff and cause havoc where ever they go.....great film, you should watch it :-))
