Has WA made a 180 on CloudFlare?

Ok so this was very interesting indeed. I just randomly read an article on WA and here someone was talking about using CloudFlare in conjunction with WA. Say what?

I had one of my sites unfortunately built on quite a slow theme back in the day and is not just a theme you can change without breaking the whole site. You will have to built everything over from scratch. So I tried to come up with some solutions to improve the speed/performance etc. of that website and CloudFlare was part of the plan.

When checking this with WA support I got emphatically told that I am not allowed to use CloudFlare and if I decide to do so they will have no choice but to delete my websites as they were telling me what a security risk CloudFlare is etc. I was a bit baffled, but I guess it had more to do with WA that feels they need to be 100% in control in order to maybe help customers with support? Not sure.

Well as a result I was not left with much of an option but to move my site to different hosting that does support CloudFlare etc. (There were other reasons too).

On top of that I heard people saying that if you want to make use of competitors to Google Adsense like Ezoic, Mediavine etc. you also cannot host here at WA.

Fast forward now to that article I randomly came across today. See some of the conversation here which massively surprised me?

The full article and comments can be read here: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.co...

So does anyone know what the latest is? It is either double standards or WA decided to do a 180 on their "CloudFlare not allowed" policy? Will be great if someone can enlighten me on the latest with a summary of what is actually allowed in regards to when it comes to hosting here at WA and what is not? What are the limitations?

This is also important info to have for when it comes to reviews as some of these aspects I do mention as cons in my WA review when comparing hosting. So as I am about to write a new article on WA with all the changes now I would like to have the correct info in this regard too.

Many thanks! Much appreciated!

Schalk

Update on the post: I asked WA support about this and this is their response.

When using cloudflare, the DNS for your site points at cloudflare, so there is no quick/simple way for our system to verify that requests to your domain are configured to reach one of our servers.

We have come up with a solution to allow sites to use cloudflare. In order to ensure that cloudflare continues to point at the hosting server your site is on, anyone using cloudflare must setup an API key and provide it to us so that our system can verify their cloudflare account is setup to proxy to the correct hosting server and can update the cloudflare DNS in the case that their site changes servers.

If you set your domain to use cloudflare DNS servers, please open a support ticket and provide the API key for your cloudflare account so that our system can verify that your domain is still pointing at a WA Hosting server and continue to ensure that cloudflare points at the correct server.

Make sure the cloudflare api token provided to us has permissions to edit and read DNS. Here is a support document:
