So You Want The Laptop Lifestyle Do You?
So you want the laptop lifestyle do you? Really!?
I know this is what we love to say when we're promoting affiliate marketing, but is it really what it's cracked up to be?
I'm in the process of packing to fly from Canada to Texas, to visit my son and his family for a month. And thinking about everything I need to bring to keep working on my business is a real chore.
For me, it's not as simple as just grabbing my laptop and going. I create Youtube videos, so I need to pack my camera, by microphone, and other things I need to run my business.
You see, this is what I call a working holiday, because I'm there for a month. I don't want to leave my business unattended for that long. Don't get me wrong... I love working down there because he has an insanely fast internet connection which I don't have up here in the country, LOL. But it still takes planning!
And really, can you see yourself sitting on a beach somewhere with your laptop??

No way! I wouldn't want to risk getting sand in my rather expensive MacBook Pro, haha. And have you ever tried to work on your laptop in the sun? You can't see the screen due to the glare, and it overheats quite quickly!
It's really not realistic.
And I end up missing my huge monitor too! My son is gracious to hook me up to one of his, but it's not the same.
At home I'm set up with a big monitor, keyboard, microphone stand I can easily maneuver, lighting, a lovely background, etc... I don't have those conveniences when I travel.
And believe me, when you're my age and trying to run a business from a 16" laptop screen for too long, your eyes go buggy, haha!!
So I just want to keep it real here.
Once your business starts making consistent income, you'll be wanting to grow and scale your business, and there's nothing quite as nice as a home office with all the amenities.
Maintaining on the road is very doable... Building is another thing altogether, haha!
What are your thoughts about the laptop lifestyle? Is it realistic for you?
Cheers,
Suzanne
P.S. I might not be as active here for the next month. I'll try, but my 15 month old granddaughter is my priority!!

I totally agree with your assessment, Suzanne! In fact, I don't do much traveling at all! I don't even use a laptop--I'm a desktop guy. So, for all the reasons, and likely a lot more than what you mentioned!
Take care! Btw, I'm from Dallas, Texas. What part are you headed to?
Jeff🤠
Hey Jeff! My son lives in Sugar Land, just outside Houston. Beautiful lush area right by the gulf. And being from northern Canada, it’s our winter destination lol
Thanks, Suzanne, and I don't doubt that! Monica is from Pasadena Texas! I, myself, am from Dallas Texas!
Jeff
The only other place I've been from Houston is Galveston and San Antonio. Both equally beautiful, so I'm sure your places are too!!
I think when people say the laptop lifestyle they sort of mean, the freedom to not travel to work. And the freedom to work anywhere. But waterproof laptops..hmmmm. Yup..
Thanks
Stephen
Hahaha, wouldn’t that be nice… a waterproof laptop lol. And yes, it’s nice to be able to take your business with you!!
Cheers
Realistic or not, (though I believe it is doable, there are people here doing it) it is definitely better than the alternative where the option does not exist.
Alex
That’s true!! I know a few people who Travel away for months, and work from Internet cafes and such. So it’s definitely doable.
Thanks for reading my post!!
Cheers
I think the "laptop lifestyle" is a very eye-catching phrase for those who want to join because it signifies freedom. But we would agree working from home where everything is so nicely set up and convenient is so nice. When we are away from home we are not as productive but the nice thing is that the business can be taken where ever one goes as long as the internet is accessible.
Yes,you’re very right! It’s nice that it’s portable, just not as productive as you say. If I were going on a real vacation like Hawaii or something, I’d have content scheduled for my time away and just answer emails and comments while there!!
Cheers!
Very interesting read and take on working the laptop life. You brought a very interesting perspective on the subject.
Thank you
