My Progress So Far

I have reached a point in training (Course 2, Lesson 10) where our instructor, Kyle, suggests sharing our progress so far with the community.

Being a private person, though, this is tough. I don’t like to be the center of attention, even on “paper". Kind of weird, I know, since I’m learning how to create a website, but it’s like getting over being afraid of spiders. I’m exposing myself to the discomfort to get to the point where I love those "spiders". There is much work to get beyond this, I’m sure, since I was always kind of a geek and learned to like being invisible.

But, being a geek is not all bad. I was an excellent student when I was in school and, as I did then, I’ll complete Kyle’s assignment in my usual timely and thorough way.

Here goes...

Well, I’ve gotten to the point where I'm actively working on two websites. This is them (since Kyle said we could mention them in our blog):

shunningasphalt.com

secretsauceforonlinesuccess.com.

The latter website is newer since I just started Bootcamp training.

I have to say, just being able to say I have two websites is quite an accomplishment for me since, for the longest time, I avoided technology.

I liked staying in the 20th century. But, out of necessity, in 2011 I got a cell phone and bought my first computer. But, I only used them when I absolutely needed to. I still preferred my landline and my computer was only a glorified typewriter. Well, I did check email, that’s true. But I wasn’t a surfer. I'd just put a toe in the water every now and then, but that was about it.

But, almost exactly 1 year ago, I had an epiphany of sorts. I realized that I could reach more people if I had my own website. You see, up to that point I realized my passion for health and helping people follow their life path was being wasted. I worked mostly in hospitals and interacted with people who often didn’t want to change their lifestyle for health. So, if in a day I saw 10 people and 8 didn’t care to modify their life choices, I didn’t feel like I had a really successful day.

Fast Forward to Today

Wow, now I have two websites and feel comfortable navigating WordPress. Better than that, I actually can understand what people are saying when they talk about websites, dashboards, autoresponders, SEO, backlinking, optimization, plugins, landing pages, permalinks, etc. When I first started learning about building a website, I remembering hearing the words but feeling like I landed on another planet. I saw the lips moving but didn’t understand a word. Amazing how much can change in a year.

So, for goals to come, I really want to get on a writing schedule, at least a post a week for both sites. What’s keeping me from doing that now is the training and family responsibilities. Since so much of this is new to me, I’m probably moving at a snail’s pace compared to others. I was extremely humbled by my own daughter over the winter holiday when she build a website from scratch using HTML. But, I have to remind myself that I didn’t get that gene and her major is computer science.

A second goal of mine is to post some of what I have learned along the way for the WA community. I love helping others and want to give back for all that I've received.

That’s all for now.

Thanks for reading!

Hope you're all working hard and getting better every day at this crazy good job we chose for ourselves. 😊

Many thanks for stopping by. And, yes, she has been helpful with introducing me to HTML. Until she told me about it, I didn't know what is was. =)

You are making great progress Susan. Part of the training is breaking into new territory and that you are doing. Keep up the good work.

Looks like you already made some wonderful progress! Do not compare yourself to other people because everyone has a different background and spend different amount of time doing the courses in here.
The key for your success will be the writing process. As far as you get comfortable with it, you'll make your site even greater.
Congrats!
