It's getting scary here, but we've been through it before. My husband and I don't live on the coast but mid-state, so we'll likely just get some flooding, lost tree branches and electricity. My sister and her family live in Myrtle Beach but are staying here for the duration of the storm. (We always planned on visiting one another "soon" but never got around to it. So now we're having a hurricane party!)
But since Katrina, I thought mandatory meant you HAVE TO get out! But it doesn't. People can still choose to stay in the face of who-knows-what-the-H-is-gonna-happen. I reckon that's what freedom's all about and I'm grateful for it, But it still makes me worry.
On the news, a reporter interviewed a store owner in Myrtle Beach who said she elected to stay so she could sell goods to the other residents who chose to stay and in the wake of the storm. Goods that will be sorely needed.....

And you could tell by watching this woman that she did not know the definition of "gouging". For those of you who don't know what gouging means, it means to grossly overcharge people in a desperate situation. (Example: charging someone $5 for a bottle of water or $25 for 1 gallon of gasoline.)
