Hello world and welcome to the first installment of my critical thoughts about myself, wealthy affiliate, and the internet as a whole. I am brand spanking new here at wealthy affiliate (been a member just shy of a month) so bear with me and my attempts to convey rational thought.
Today I want to offer encouragement to those just starting out.
To let you know my story and where I am now I completed course one in just under a week and happily tried the first month discount as a trial. However, it wasn't all roses from that point. I was immediately frozen when the training asked me to choose a domain name and seek to build a brand. Yikes!
I built a siterubix site but wasn't completely sold on the niche idea I had.
I was worried I would hate it a week or two into writing serious content. I had doubts that my niche was already thoroughly covered. I honestly had anxiety and stress every time I thought about logging into wealthy affiliate because I needed to do some critical thinking and actually choose a niche and a domain name and begin building something that matters.
My solution: I simply didn't log in. Yep. You read that right. After PAYING for better training, greater access, and a more straightforward avenue for success I neglected to login to wealthy affiliate. How dumb is that? People tell me I'm smart. But let's remember, people are frequently wrong...
I had let my doubts and insecurities (I know, you have them too) become more important than my success. This is the worst thing we can do. Crippling anxiety is exactly that. Crippling. It doesn't help. It doesn't contribute to success. It doesn't build anybody up. It merely serves to halt your success in it's proverbial tracks.
So what did I do?
Well apart from the awesome training this place has to offer it has another priceless commodity: a rip-romping world-class success-seeking flock of internet experts here to coach you to the finish line. That's right. The other members here... are here.... for your success! Now read that again slowly. Think about it. From Kyle to Carson to comiccon1987 every member here is about encouraging one another and giving personal insight for the ultimate purpose of guiding one another to success and happiness via affiliate marketing. That should give you warm fuzzies right there.
You still didn't answer the question.
Ok, ok. You got me. Let me explain. A wonderful fellow member here at WA, actually the very same one that unwittingly recruited me months ago (I never committed to joining even the free membership until last month) sent me a private message to see how I was doing. Just checking in. Kudos to you Gary, I was doing poorly! I told him my situation, my doubts, my failure to finalize my niche. And you know what he said?
Your niche ultimately doesn't matter.
What? I had to take a moment. What was he saying? Slowly, over time, I realized what he was trying to say. Now Gary didn't use exactly those words but the sentiment was thoroughly obvious. He was telling me that my domain, my brand, my "ultimate internet destiny" was really insignificant.
Whoa, whoa, whoa, pump the brakes, Gary. What are you saying? It doesn't matter what I choose?
Yes! Right now the most important objective, if you're not currently an online superstar with an authority website literally raking in the hordes of cash, then the most important objective is to learn! Yes, stop worrying about what you select as your niche, your passion, your area of interest. Pick something even mildly interesting to you, make it the easiest thing you can write about (meaning the one you are most familiar and happy with) and lock it down. In so doing you will move forward with training and learning WHICH IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART! Now if you are at the same point I was then you're going to have to choose a domain name and register it (warning: costs money).
Oh no not more money!
It's literally a dollar a month. Let me say that again. It's literally a dollar a month. Ok $1.16 a month but still... If you have premium access, even if you're just here for the discount first month, you are spending more on the training than you would be hosting your own website. How many people do you personally know who can claim that? That's what I thought. Get a domain and move forward already.
So my advice is to those dragging their feet and doubting their TRUE POTENTIAL...
Now in the famous words of Ms. Frizzle, "Take a chances, make mistakes, get messy!" That is literally what this place is all about. Periodically, to move forward and progress in anything we have to overcome hurdles. Life is a race, and there will be obstacles along the way. Internet marketing is no different. There are hurdles as we learn and progress that we will have to jump if we want to move forward to the finish line of success here (and remember what that is for each of us, we defined it shortly after we got here with our own personal money making goals). Fortunately, these hurdles are low thresholds. This isn't a steeplechase where you've got to rip forward at breakneck speed, it's more of a leisurely jog towards financial freedom and job independence. There are low thresholds to cross, but you've got to cross them if you want to achieve your goals.
It may seem hard at first but keep at it and don't let the fear of making mistakes keep you from taking action. Taking consistent action is the key. Learning the right action to take will come with time and is the ultimate purpose of all the training. You WILL get there. You CAN do this.
So the next time you are met with resistance, when you have indecision, self-doubt, remember no decision is wrong because it will move you forward. And the only way we will not reach our goals is if we stop moving forward. If you get stuck or tired or just discouraged reach out to a fellow member here. Even Kyle if you don't know anyone else. Sometimes kind words are all it takes to jumpstart your passion again. Remember why you are here. What do you want out of this? Taking action will get you there. And I know you can do it.
