Online Money - it's not "Something for Nothing"
I had a mental block with online money-making that I struggled with for years, but less-so now that I'm actually making some cash online (no applause please, it's not nearly enough to live on - it's not even 4 digits).
When I got my first IM course from Cory Rudl back in the 1990's it seemed so shady. I'm not saying Cory was a crook. But when I consumed his course, it seemed as though what he was teaching me was how to trick people out of their hard-earned money. And basically, it just seemed as though the whole idea of making money online was like trying to get "something for nothing". Almost like a con-man's way to earn a living.
But as I've gotten older I've realized that knowledge is worth something (as in money). And, the opportunity to find information neatly organized and quickly deliverable was worth something too.
True, you can find just about any information on the Internet for free if you look long enough. But, what's your time worth?
When a publisher can put reviews, how-to articles, and streamline the purchase process all in one place, they are saving me a bunch of time, that's worth something! If they can gain my trust too, then I'm coming back again and again.
Today, I have a fairly successful Youtube and Website built around a niche that delivers very specific information to help people solve technical problems. I am delivering a very useful service so I don't have any ethical problems with the advertising revenue it generates. It's a complete win-win for me and my audience. They trust me too. That trust came from years of giving away free information with NOOOOO money for me.
Consumer's BS radars are pretty sharp. If you are just focused on trying to make a sale, then that's going to come through in subtle ways. They will pickup on it. It's very off-putting. It's like Kyle says frequently "consider the human element".
So, if you, my fellow IM'ers find yourself struggling to make money online or are starting to doubt the legitimacy of your endeavor, put yourself on the other side of your website (the audience side). Are you delivering real value? Or, are you just trying to get them to CLICK HERE?
If the answer is YES to the VALUE and you're continually sharpening a profitable formula then success MUST follow.
And, you deserve every dollar coming your way!
