Some days and weeks are better than others
Ever get the feeling you're totally crushing it? You keep on pushing because everything you do feels like it's moving you forward. You crank out content, you get on here at WA and answer questions, and you see your site start to slowly (very, very slowly) climb in the SERPs and your rank here go up (I saw my rank here jump 600 points in one day!). Things are looking awesome!
Then you hit a wall. Other things get in the way. You get writer's block. You don't show up in the community for a few days. You can't find your site on Google.
What the heck, man?
But you know what? That's this little thing we call life. Some days are better than others. Some weeks, some months, even some years are better than others. We just celebrated our first year in our "new" home and town, and it's been the best year of my life so far.
So why am I griping about my current site and WA activity?
Great question! I shouldn't be! Look, we all go through rough patches in everything we experience, but if we work to improve consistently, they get better.
I almost lost my marriage when it wasn't a priority for us. We changed that and made it the most important thing to us and now have the best relationship of our lives. It took time and effort.
I remained stagnant in my job and became unhappy with my situation until I worked with my team to take the bull by the horns and am now (well, we are) growing quite the successful little wealth management firm. It is taking time and effort.
I've lost my faith and fallen from the narrow path but now have a closer relationship with God than I ever have. It has taken time and effort.
I gave up on martial arts for years, finding excuses to explain away my own laziness and complacency. Now both of my children and I are climbing the ranks as ninjas (that's right - ninjas) and gaining fulfillment neither of them has ever experienced and that I have not in a long time. And clearly it was a good move, considering my entire web business is based on martial arts. But it is taking time and effort.
So keep some perspective here. Yeah, it's been a few days of frustration and life getting in the way of progress, but it's important to me to keep pushing. I am so blessed to have the opportunities I have and when one area of life feels like it's not going right, I must remember the ones that are. And honestly, in the grand scheme of things, what's a few days? Or even a few weeks or months?
When you hit those walls, don't beat yourself up. The road to success is not straight. It bumps and winds and goes over hills and into valleys. Sometimes it's slick and you run off or wreck. That's okay. As long as you're still alive, you can keep on going.
So keep on going. Things have a way of working out, but it does indeed take time and effort.
