Goals Will Not Achieve Themselves

Goals do not set themselves and goals will not achieve themselves. It requires effort from the goal-setter. More importantly it requires desire. When we set goals, we are making a commitment to ourselves to be successful. To be successful, we must have the desire to succeed.

The first step in setting a goal is to define it. To define a goal, ask yourself these questions:

  • What do I want to achieve?
  • Why do I want to achieve it?

After you have answered those questions, then ask yourself, "Is it realistic?"

The single most important aspect of defining a goal is that it be realistic. I could set a goal to take a trip to the moon in a year, but since I am not an astronaut or a major shareholder in SpaceX, then that goal is pretty unrealistic.

As long as a goal is realistic, then it is achievable. The only obstacle to achieving our goals is ourselves. We have a choice of having a mind-set of success or one of failure. It is much easier to fail then it is to succeed. To fail all we have to do is nothing. Just give up. Easy, right?

Goals will sometimes be hard to achieve. The harder they become, the harder we must work to make them successful. We must stay focused and never give up.

Anything worth having is worth fighting for!

Hi, Stephen.
Great first post on 'Goal Setting' and the realities involved. I can see that you are headed in the right direction.

Welcome to The Wealthy Affiliate Community.

Paul.

Thanks Paul.

Cheers.

Hi Stephen.

"Goals Will Not Achieve Themselves"
No, worst luck. ☹️
Blood, guts, sweat and tears—all must be shed in achieving our very highest goals. However, what we must **never** lose sight of is to keep it lighthearted and fun. If it isn't fun anymore, we're probably headed in the wrong direction. (Of course, I mean developing our niche for online marketing, etc, not visiting the doctor to discover the origin of a pain! 😜)

Have fun and I wish you a home filled with happiness.

Regards,

Setting realistic goals is important, and preferably measurable goals too. Also, setting a time for working on a goal helps. Say, my goal is to write two post this week. They´re measurable, if one post has to be 1000 words long. If I can mark on my calendar, I´m going to write on Monday and Thursday, even better, because then I have a time set when I´m going to work on my goals.

It is important for goals to have a means for measuring their success and that they are time sensitive. I focused on realism as the first step in defining a goal because if it is not realistically achievable, then the following steps are irrelevant. Thanks for responding.

Great Post Stephen. Lost count how many Goals I have set over the Years. Some achieved but not all. I willadd though, Set Lofty Goals aim to push yourself higher than you would normally dare. I have found that if I set small goals then I tend not to push for them.

Great point, Marcus! The bigger the goal, the harder we will strive to achieve it. Thank you for responding.
