NO TRUMPET - Help with any Ideas
Find Your True Essence?
After creating my niche based on what I'm passionate about "Sammie Roberts Jazz" (www.SammieRoberts.Com ) I niche-d down even more to arrive at a clear picture of what my ultimate true essence is in the area of music. I thought about a time that I was hurt the most in my life and how could I create something powerful to prevent others from experiencing that pain and disappointment.
I thought back to 5th grade... I recall coming home from school one afternoon excited to practice my trumpet, I ran to my room and on my bed was my mouthpiece, lesson books, valve oil and cleaning rag....NO TRUMPET!!
I frantically and angrily yelled for my sister (she was home before me) and said WHERE IS MY HORN??? She quietly and innocently said "Oh, a man in a suit from the music store came by with some papers and asked to see your trumpet, he left his card and wants mommy to call him....he said he had to take the horn for a few days!" A few days???? What does that mean? Where his card I want to call him!!
I fell on the couch and cried, I was so devastated the thought of going to band practice the next day at school without a horn was more than I could handle and not practicing was even more hurtful, MY HORN WAS REPOSSESSED. My mother was a single parent raising three children and I understood that meals and clothes were first on the priority list, it still hurt. I eventually got a horn and switched to saxophone later...that's another story in itself.
The Niche
Reflecting on this, I arrived at Give A Horn . ORG ( purchased the domains for Giveahorn.org and Giveahorn.Com) I'm in the process of defining a program that will get horns (instruments) to school aged children. In my travels around the country as a performing musician and educator I have met many people who have instruments in their attics, closets and basements that were used by their children who are now adults and no longer need the instruments, I'm certain that I can get these refurbished and in the hands of deserving children.
The pawn shops are rip offs ridiculously expensive and you rarely see them at yard sales, Good Will and Salvation Army outlets get the horns for free and jack the prices up. IT's so sad A CHILD CAN GET A GUN EASIER AND CHEAPER THAN A INSTRUMENT!!!!
TAKE ACTION
So that's it.....through my travels, during performances, blogs and web sites I will begin promoting GIVEAHORN.ORG . The site will be up this week, thanks to WA it provides the platform for creating huge possibilities. This is a huge undertaking that will gigantic breakthroughs and benefits for children enabling them to manufacture their own sound and voice through music contributing to scholastic excellence and future success.
