Internal links are to posts and pages within your own website and external links are to other websites. Add Links in WordPress: Text and Images

to clear up some of the answers below:
Internal = takes the visitor to another page/post within the same website
External= takes them to another website (such as an affiliate link would do)
Just left click the URL using the mouse. Copy the info, go to your word or phrase where you want to establish your link and left click again. Go to the paper clip on top of the screen and click. This should open a link to paste the URL info. Paste and click "done" in right bottom of the window. This should do it. Test to make sure it works. Good luck
