My son is so awesome!

So the end of the story is that I'm typing this story on a borrowed computer.

Here's why.

My husband and my computer had a small accident and the computer lost, so it's in the shop for an untold amount of time. This is a super fancy touch screen, does everything, "all in one unit" computer. My life is attached to it and stored in it.

My Mother-in-law was over when it happened and in all her goodness kept telling me that "it's just a thing" and things can be replaced and people cannot. It's just a thing. True....but,

I'm freaking out and pacing around not knowing if everything I had stored is gone or what or if it can be fixed.

It wasn't really helping that my mom in law kept telling me it's just a thing.

So my son pipes up, he's 14 and says but Ouma! That's a future million dollar business in there!!

My son is so awesome :)

Love it Stacy, what a great job you have done raising him!!

Sorry about the computer but glad it was an easy fix.

Veronica

Thank you! I'm so glad it was easy(ish) to fix too.

Sorry guys and gals, I went away for the weekend. All is well in computer land and it was an easier fix than any of us expected. He just smashed the power button with a speaker-sounds funny but he did so it just needed re-soldering.

Apparently, you have other means of communication with the outside world. Glad to see that you are not offline completely.

Really puts the whole backup thing in perspective doesn't it.
And your son is great for pointing out that it is your primary business tool.

My son and husband are gamers, so we have no shortage of computers and devices around here. I borrowed one of theirs. But mine is bigger and nicer than theirs!

It is and isn't. You will get it back when you get your computer back or buy a new one. Remember to back up for the rest of your life.

I was lucky this time, the damage caused was directly with the power button so nothing in the memory was at risk at all. But if the power button was not repairable then I would have been in trouble. I was always backing up, now I'll just be more diligent at it.

I don't get the ending. What does Ouma mean?

Grammy. Grandmother, Grandma,

Thanks for answering that :)

I would be lost without my computer. It may be sad but I no longer think of it as a 'thing'. It has become part of me. I hope your computer comes home soon and as right as rain. It isn't often that 14 year old boys come up with a gem. I had four so I know! Jackie x

I agree completely, it's not simply a tool on the desk (or whatever) anymore. Our lives are deeply connected to our computers, mobiles and technology in general.

Give your son a High 5 from me, Stacy! He's got it goin' on, for sure!

I know your computer was trashed somewhat BUT... how's your husband??? Hope he's OK. Also, do you have a backup of your site (offline or in the cloud)? I hope so. At least, that way, you won't be losing everything, right? :(

Sending good vibes your way for a speedy recovery -- computer recovery, that is :o)

I will! He stepped in at the absolute perfect time. My husband survived the weekend, we went out of town, so I had no time to think about it. He's happy it was an easy fix.

Well if you sons believes that then it must be so. Smart young man you got there...

Did she understand what you were trying to accomplish with this thing?

Hope it all turns out well with your computer.

I didn't know he felt that way or cared that much it was cool! My mother in law (and most others I know) have no idea/don't understand what I'm doing or trying to accomplish online.
She has just recently discovered facebook after being an email "forwarder" of inspirational quotes, movies, PP slideshows and anything else like it by the dozens.

I am sorry...;O( But you have to know without people like your mother, we would probably freak out way worse, I will wait until later to tell you that, Many good things will come from this....oops.

As Randy pointed out the scripture we walk by faith not by sight.

Please don't hit me ;O)

I will pray: you get your computer back very soon

It turned out well and I have my computer back in fine shape...even better than before actually. I didn't lose anything-which was awesome, the problem was unrelated to the memory and storage etc.

Glad it turned out so well. Wish everyone could see as your son does how all this work will pay off...

God bless

They will eventually, when I can quit my job-that's when they'll notice.

The best part of all is a computer disaster turned out to be a great encouragement to you and really all of us...
Thank you for reaching out.
It will be great to hear the day you are able to quit.

Have a awesome day ; O)

It's pretty amazing how some things work out! I'll definitely let you all know when it all fits together and I don't need a job anymore.

I'm very sorrry to hear about your computer problems, but your son is the hero here. What an awesome reply. Sounds like he's your most favorite supporter. What a good way to start a saturday. Made my day!

Good luck with the computer.

I didn't realize he thought that way, it was so spontaneous and genuine. Double thumbs up for him.

He got a big high 5 for that!
