Does anyone use the Bing info widget?. I put one in my website and I'm afraid it has more info on other websites that might make my affiliate links redundant. <

only if you are getting revenue for it if not dump it.

Thanks Tommy
I shall have to "dump it", which is a shame it is quite helpful for visitors looking for quick info.
Thanks again :O))

I have downloaded WordPress to my laptop using WAMP server.

I now need to migrate my domain content and themes to my localhost.

I have watched a few Youtube vids and

Good work Squirrell. I personally use XAMPP, and love testing on my local server. And while you are in the local server, you can actually test the site from another PC on the same network, just as if it were live, including email and FTP. So it is a great tool to use.

Hi Savant!

I have a customer who wants to move her entire website to Wordpress.

It is stationed at brinkster.com and it shall remain there. But at the moment the website is built on Dreamweaver and it looks like it's done in the 90's. It is not responsive. The strange thing is it is still high ranking in Google? So it is very important to do this as appropriate as possible not to lose SEO.

Perhaps you could be interested in doing this assignment for me?

When everything is moved I will myself install a theme (Divi) that I am used to and I will fix the small quirks and design issues that will appear. I do however need help with the technical aspect of "moving the website from the root it is in now unto a WordPress-installation".

Please contact me to discuss the details and your compensation.

Regards,

Fredrik

How good does it feel to work it out for yourself good job

Great for working it out yourself.

you imported your msql database right? Because you say it works.

Yes I have got it on my local host wordpress everything ok
I think the hard part for me will be the uploading of new posts to my live domain it looks a bit complex

Uploading new posts?

Yes, instead of working from your live site or writing in a word document and then copy and pasting into your live site, you do your work on a duplicate wordpress and upload your new content to your live domain site

interesting!

Glad you think so

But why not just import your existing msql database? Since you do not have a control panel here you should ask support to do that for you but its easy and you won't need to redo each and every post you made in the past. Not to mention that the dates will not be those of the originals.

Thanks for the advice but it's a bit too tech for to understand you at this time.

I always learn the hard way and no matter how simple anyone makes it I end up making it a mountain:O))

Ok I'll try to explain because it would save you a lot of time transferring your old posts and pages.

When you login to your control panel at your old host you have a program called PHP My admin or something similar. With that program you can export your Wordpress Msql database.

Then you upload this exported file to your ftp main directory on the WA servers called /httpdocs to where you also copy your wordpress files from your old host.

After tjhat contact hosting support and request them to import the msql database file you just uploaded to /httpdocs and your new site should be working.

Please do note that your domain login credentials as mentioned in your member section at WA might no longer work since the msql database also contains your old login credentials. So use those if login fails.

Hope this helps.

I do not know how to change my page titles from click-able links to the same page, to non-click-able. Does anybody know why this happens and what's the solution?

see Leo has answered you guess you need to understand code to do this task..

Thanks Leo
I will delve into my themes attributes and see what I can do :O))

Your page titles and post titles are part of the default coding within WordPress themes making your titles clickable.

To change this you will need to change the code within the theme. Or create a child theme and make the changes within that.

How do I format my page titles to be unlinked?

I have messed up my WordPress parent theme trying to create a child theme. I have un-installed the theme and reinstalled, a number of times but it does not change the error mess

I had the issue yesterday of a different theme asking me to install the parent theme. Go to your themes where you got them , there should be one called catch evolution sample...who created it? there should be another theme to download to make the catch evolution child theme. Mine was created by studio press and I bought the theme years ago and there is a tutorial advising me where to download the parent theme.

Thanks BRank
Your advice did the trick. I went to the desiner's details and they have a child theme to upload.

The error message is still there but I have got the parent and child, so I won't worry about the message
Thanks again :O))

Just one thing am I supposed to do my editing on the child theme or the parent?

My understanding is that your editing should be done on the child theme rather than the parent. By editing the child theme, updates to the parent theme won't wipe out your changes.

I use Studio Press themes on most of my blogs, does WA have StudioPress Themes available?

Glad it's now straightened out. I host through outside hosting companies, and not familiar with WA Hosting

Glad you got it sorted...as Bob says you do the editing through child theme. Good luck. Will follow you

Hi Sonja
Look in the "Build My Website" part on the left menu, they have an awful lot of themes, not sure if the one you want will be amongst them
Good luck :O))

Where are you hosting your theme? Did you already have posts / pages / data in your blog, or is it an empty blog theme issue?

Hi Sonja
I am using WA hosting and I have 12 pages on this theme.
I have backed up my site to dropbox but I do not know how to obtain the procedure for making it active.
Hope this makes sense :O))

I have watched Kyle's training on forwarding and domain emails. I can not get anything to happen on my site.

Here are the steps I take:
1. Go to Build a Website
2. Choose EMAIL
3. Click NEW FORWARD
4. There are 3 fields..1st field type is whatever email address you want (probably something catchy relating to your website)...this is the address you will want people to click on via any blogs, etc on your site
5. 2nd filed - this is a drop down that will show every domain you have on WA. I have 3 domains, so, I can choose any of the 3.
6. 3rd field - type the main email address that you want #4 directed to.
7. Once you do all of this look just below and you should see how your new email address has an arrow pointed to your main address.

Hope this helps!

Thank you qbjack01
I will have another go :O))

Let me know if you are successful

I got the WA email address to forward to my personal gmail account. Now, how do I get it added to my account so I can SEND/answer emails from my personal account using that email? The set-up asks me for passwords and numbers that I don't know. Where do I get these?

Hi Dfishell
Go to site manager - site e-mail - login
The password and the name you chose are the ones you use for wa webmail.

Just copy and paste the info into the right place.

Hope this helps, if not just let me know

I'll try it, Thanks!

Great idea...thanks, Squirrell

I have many posts on my website and uses several different categories to separate them (as much as possible). The problem I am having is how to further split out my categories so posts do not appear
one on top of another when you choose (for example) REVIEWS. I have about 8 reviews and it looks "messy" when you click on the REVIEWS post....8 reviews (one on top the other) shows up.
Any ideas how to organize posts so a person can easily find what they are looking for instead of sifting through one giant-looking blog with multiple posts?

I have not written any posts yet so I have not used the "category" yet so can't help you there.

I have had a look at your sites the "Stay Strong For Life" I can see that your categories have numbers at the end.

If you can give each subject one generic title and the put the posts into a subcategory of each generic subject.

i.e, Exercise >Stretch And Warm up > Workout
Exercise being the generic title
Hope this makes sense

You can have multiple email links to your main email address...but, only one main email address. In the email section are you seeing the email address on your website with an arrow pointing to your real email address?
I had the same problem, but, found it was simple to set up.
Let me know if this helps. I can walk you through it if you need more assistance.

Thanks qbjack01
I have set up a contact page to do any messaging, but you can show how to do the email link when you have time, it would come in handy to know for the future.
I don't like to think I have not learnt the very basics of web building :O))

You are not alone!

As busy as they are I have always received an answer from them.

Hi Bill67
I was commenting on the fact I can not get my email and forwarding link to work on my website. Thanks for the reply :O))

Me too, Bill

OK I will do it now thanks :O))

if you cannot resolve it you can always pm Kyle or Carson,, I had no problems getting mine to work or ask in the live chat if someone can help you

Thanks Katie
Might try live chat have not done that yet :O))

No mine wouldn't work either... my website email was automatically entered so then I added my personal email to have it forwarded to and it told me I couldn't do it because my website email already existed (or something to that effect)

Thanks Tallell97
It is driving me a bit over the edge. There is always somthing with WordPress that is never right :O))

I've had a few issues with WordPress but they have been MY issues, ie my lack of knowledge and ability... a couple of quick questions on here and all was sorted. i just left the email for now but I guess I should get it sorted as once I get a few websites up and running, it will be time-consuming to log into each one separately to check emails

I agree Tallell97
I suppose I have to conquer WordPress. Glad to talk to you and here's to SUCCESS!! :O))

I second that :)
