Talent Is Overrrated!

According to John Rampton, a highly successful entrepreneur and online marketer as well as startup enthusiast talent is totally overrated. This is what he has to say:

Regardless if you are an entrepreneur, athlete, coach, artist,or politician we all face hurdles and setbacks at some point of our lives. There is a distinct separation between becoming a success or failure. It all boils down to resilience, confidence and not talent.

Mentally tough people are the ones that can tackle, endure and push through with plans and goals.

(1)They possess the 4 C's.

- Confidence --- where you believe in yourself and your abilities.

-Challenge --- where you embrace change or new opportunities in stead of resistance

-Control ---Where you have the the power to control and to shape your own destiny.

-Commitment --- Where you set goals and work towards achieving them.

(2) They're emotionally intelligent.

(3)They're not entitled.

(4) They're flexible.

(5)They learn from the past. But don't harp on it.

(6)They keep an even keel.

(7)They don't whine, complain or criticize.

(8)They have sense of urgency.

(9)They're consistent.

(10)They're grateful and appreciative.

Just a few points to ponder on and to my mind it says a lot.

Have yourselves a lovely and productive day and most of all enjoy what you are doing.

Take care.

Johan.

Thank you Johan for sharing this. I can definitely see the 4 C's as being major contributing factors for finding success at whatever it is we do.
Jerome

You are most welcome Jerome.

Talent is not overrated at all... talent is reason of envy

I wonder what Mozart would say on this, or Beethoven, Bach, Carravagio, Leonardo, ...

Most probably a song and who-ha I would imagine!!

I do not understand what you are saying. Talented shift the limits, mediocrities fill in the gaps, this is how I see it.

The basic message the author Johan Rampton is sending out is one of a very hard working person with plenty of tenacity. The old classical masters of music and scientists, various artists etc. have all had their ups and downs in life. Beethoven went deaf at a very young age yet he kept on writing and producing music. Mozart died a poor and sick man and was thrown into a pauper's grave. And yet he endeavoured. He never gave up on his passion and talent. You can have all the talent in the world but if you don't put it to good use and pursue a hard working ethic your talent will go to waste!
The above "recipe" is certainly one to follow.

Take care.

Johan.

Then you should change your title. Hard work is not enough, those big names could have killed themselves of hard work without results, it is a spark of genius that is needed and which pushes the limits. Do you think my colleagues do not work hard, they do not have passion? Yes they do work harder than Einstein, but this does not make them Einsteins. This is the time of mediocrities.

One could argue about emotional intelligence, it may be just the other way around, but I would not enter into this discussion.

It is not for me to change the title as I'm reporting on what John Rampton has to say. A multi-millionaire online marketer!

What a great post I certainly believe if you don't enjoy what your doing it will not work. I think everyone here at WA enjoys learning and seeing what that learning has taught them like building our own site, being part of a great community, and seeing the result of the hard work pay off.
Thanks for sharing.
