Are there specific types of equipment needed?

Are there health risks involved in working online (eye strain, back aches, etc.)?

Is there a required upload and downlo

Happy New Year!! It is a personal preference concept. With WA, you can use all forms of digital computers from iPads, Android Tablets, Laptops to PC - any brand. Where? That again is determined by your space-available. Standard broadband from a "cable company" although they charge more than they deliver (most often), the amount of download and upload is sufficient for a Home-Based Business... unless you're in the Video Production Business... that takes tons of bandwidth and can be very costly.
Eye stain - positively there can be. Many studies from around the world have shown that. Sleep deprivation from LED lights etc., a Google search regarding the health or hazard risks present with digital equipment (PC to Cell-Phone) will assist you there.
Equipment again depends on your business model. If you are physically (like we do) selling a product, then we need a laser printer for invoicing, packing lists, shipping label printing, etc., and we also have a Xerox Color Printer for special post-card and promotional printing. Magic-Jack phone system works great if working within the US and Canada and you cannot beat the annual price.
Try to add a few more specifics regarding "What you plan do to for a business" and "How do you plan to do it"
If you are involved in straight "digital information" transferring and downloading - you can accomplish all of it digitally with the need for considerable office space, office equipment or office supply store purchases.
Hope this helps!!

Thank you for your feedback & Happy New Year to you as well! The ability to use a wide range of digital computers is great! An individual on a budget could buy a tablet around $100 and would be able to accomplish what is needed and as their business grows could upgrade their equipment! A low investment for such an awesome opportunity here at WA. As for health problems a common remedy I have found after much research is taking breaks. A quality printer is a good point to make as our businesses expand the ability to print important documents and possible e-mail and fax is important. Thanks again for your feedback!

Keep your pc in good working order. Some people can get some eye strain, If you do, you can probably find some help online for information on how to help or prevent that.
I do have major back issues and sitting made it much worse. I gave up sitting at the pc 2 years ago and I just stand up all day. Find out what makes you more comfortable. Best of luck to you!

Maintaining your equipment is great point! Properly maintained equipment will yield wonderful results! As I stated before it is very important to take breaks often when working online and drink lots of water!

Well I certainly have nothing special. Here is what I have:

2-3mb broadband

I have a tiny desk in the corner, where I used to use a wooden kitchen chair until recently when my wife gave me a proper office chair as a Xmas present.

I have a packard bell laptop, which I sometimes take on my lap and sit on the couch.

I sometimes have screaming kids around me.

I have never had any side effects in any way. My other work is much more physical so it may mean I have a stronger endurance.

So this is my working space and I am very happy with it

I personally do not have anything special either. I currently work full time as an elderly caregiver and when I can I take my laptop and do some work during "down" times. At home I do have a computer desk. I take my laptop with me everywhere and have a backpack specifically for laptops. I have had my laptop since 2009 but since it is so important to me I maintain it very well. It has never given me any major issues. It is a Dell Studio 1555. I also have a all in 1 HP printer which is great for scanning and making copies. I also sometimes have many distractions as I have 3 chihuahuas but with dedication looking past those distractions has become relatively easy.
