When recently asked what is the keys to public relations?

The first key in PR is to position oneself around key people.

Second key is to find out how you can help them build their brand i.e. referrals.

Third key be an asset not a liability, when you approach anyone in business be sure to express how you can add value. Adding value is essential to building "strong" business relationships. If someone does not see you as an added value chances are there's no foundation for either party to build on.

The fourth key is the greatest, most business owners fail to respond or follow-up. Following up and/or responding to messages can in fact place you in the driver's seat those who don't normally ride shot gun.

Remember there are those that make things happen and there are those who watch things as they happen. In some cases, if you're not ready to engage "patient" is key - never rush into anything you're not sure about, rushing is a sign of desperation. In closing, move when you feel the need to, when signs of caution rise- be sure to embrace your insight. Lastly, learning how to monetize relationships is another thing I think most people in business struggle with so know your worth. Be sure to value your time, if you don't others will not. How you spend your time is in comparison with how you spend your money. Don't waste it!
