I was wondering if anyone truly knows if there's a significant difference in the amount of traffic that is generated weather your web site uses a domain.siterubix.com or domain.
If you're serious about having an online business then you should consider the expense of having your own domain name (around $12 a YEAR) vs having a SiteRubix subdomain. Kyle explains the benefits of having your own cyber real estate Your Own Domain, Your Brand.TRAFFIC in my opinion it's a no-brainer. ~Marion
Everything BelieveItYes and MHaninsworth have said is right on the money.
The key factor that I looked at is if your planning on having your own Domain name the faster you get one up and running, the faster you get through the SEO growing stage to be recognized for better ranking.
Hope that helps.
Hi!
I think when you start with this online business it doesn't make a big difference whether you use a http://siterubix.com or a .com. However it has been proven that .com and .org websites rank better than domains that have a suffix like http://siterubix.com
In this lesson, Kyle explains the advantages of having your own domain : Your Own Domain, Your Brand.TRAFFIC I personally got started with a siterubix domain but my website wasn't getting ranked. Perhaps it didn't get ranked because it was brand new and didn't have enough content? I think a domain with a suffix attached to it CAN get ranked though but it'll take longer. I now own my own .org domain and some of my pages are ranked on the first page of google.
So if you are considering doing this seriously, buying a domain name seems like the right thing to do. Eventually.
Take care!
Sarah
PS : isn't it cool to have your own domain name?! Buying my first two domains remain some of the most exciting things i've ever done =)
Sarah,
Thank you for answering my question with experience to back it up. Now I can make an informed buying decision. I am definitely going to buy a domain now.
I don't know if there's any research out there but I do know that many affiliate companies prefer if you have your own domain name. It also means you can have your email address to fit the site which some companies prefer. For some people (and possibly Google) it may show a greater level of commitment to your business than being on another hosting site.
But in the beginning when the site is being developed and traffic will be small anyway I don't think it makes much difference.

Does it really matter if you buy a domain or not?
