"What are you PASSIONATE about?!"

I am a couple days into this journey, and have thought about blogging about my experiences - both good and bad so that people can hopefully relate and possibly even learn from any mistakes I make.

At the moment I am currently working for an online software company and am about to move abroad to live with my partner (spouse). Visa requirements meant I couldn't keep my job - so I took this a sign to move on, start doing something I am passionate about, help people and learn a whole lot in the process!

I'm up to the end of the 3rd training session in the starter series and have begun brainstorming ideas for my niche. I racked my brain trying to come up with something. So among other points I've kept in mind a few (some of the training sessions and e-books have talked about) that I've picked up on so far:

  1. Keep money out of the equation and try to define what you are passionate about...
  2. What kind of people are you going to be "talking" to?
  3. Be prepared to delve deeper into research for whatever niche you choose

There are many things I'm passionate about - and I'm going to share them with you here. I don't mind sharing them as I'm not afraid that someone may "steal" my niche or idea - I'm all for idea sharing and if someone can do it better - then that's great!

I came up with this list (in no particular order):

  • Healing
  • Gratitude
  • Helping others
  • "paying it forward"
  • Home DIY
  • Gardening
  • Muay Thai / FIghting
  • Travel
  • Cultures

Now I do not profess to be an expert in any of these fields, it is simply a list of things that come to mind when I think of things I am passionate about. In doing so I actually found that if this website (my first website) makes no money at all but helps just 1 person improve their life then it will be a success - because it would have taught me a few things:

  • how to build a website (the do's and don'ts)
  • content that people want to listen to or not
  • how to reach out to people that are willing to help. I don't normally like asking for help - but thought, how I am meant to help others and encourage others to accept help when I myself do not.
  • patience with the process of creating a site and reaching out to people

The list can go on...

So feel free to comment and/or share ideas and experiences - I'm keen to know, and I'm sure there are so many others out there too!

  1. How far through the journey are you?
  2. Was your first website something that you are passionate about?
  3. What are some key points you wish you knew (that you know now) that would have helped your journey?

Have an awesome day!

SJ

Great post SJ. Sometimes when you it is in sharing that you actually learn more about yourself. This website has a ton of information and as you say, dont make money the main thing as that can take away from delivering good quality content.
I have child care today so hopefully i will be able to focus on this and get things up and running. Keep us posted on how you progress, keen to see how things unfold for you. Once i have come up with something, i shall invite you over to check it out.

The biggest thing for me that I learned is that it takes a lot of time to get things rolling. Once it gets rolling you need to keep at making regular content to scale your income. Your Google analytics are key. They help you figure out if what your doing has an effect. I continually tried new things with social media and commenting on other blogs. It all helps.

That's very helpful thanks Ethan! I see what you mean - engagement with others (both inside and outside your network) is important to keep up to speed with the environment. Noted on the Google analytics, I'll have to put this on my list of things to learn about! Thank you again for your comment.
