Account Security

These days you can't take your security too seriously and you should create hard to guess unique passkeys for all of your online accounts.

Everyone knows that the default user name on WordPress is 'Admin', so you should change this to something unique because a hacker would know this, and this would be half the battle won for him as now he knows that your user name is 'Admin', and would only need to hack your passkey to your WordPress account and he will be in your back office.

A hacker would only need to look you up on a social network site to find out more about you to help him hack your passkey. ''Well that wouldn't happen to me'' I hear you say, but remember that you are trying to expose your WordPress blog and your WA profile to as many people as possible in order to make sales, so you do not know who is looking at your blog.

This applies to all of your online accounts and activities, don't think you are safe because you have one complicated passkey that you use on all your accounts, you wont be, because once this has been hacked a hacker will try it on your other accounts.

So remember stay safe on line and create unique usernames and unique passkeys where you can, I know that creating unique user names is not always possible, as many sites default to using your e-mail address as your username, but where you can make up a user name, please do and always create a unique passkey.

Thank you again on the education. I just started a notebook to help with all my passwords so I will be able to remember. Thank you for the information.

Great piece Simon. Great information and worthwhile warning. DAN

I agree strong passwords and change them regularly. I recommend once every month, but no less then every 3 months.
