Sometimes I Have to Do Some Things My Way

Over the years I've learned that my own instincts are always right, no matter what anyone else says. Although I KNOW this, I often still find it challenging to put into practice.

Many years ago ago, I'd sold close to 500 items on eBay. Absolutely EVERYTHING I'd ever listed was sold. At the time I didn't realise that only 53% of everything listed is even looked at, let alone sold. So, in hindsight, I'd done very well. Consequently, when I was thinking of my next entrepreneurial venture, I decided to sell my items on eBay. I invested many thousands of dollars attending a 4 day seminar on how to make millions selling on eBay, believing that the experts would know more than me. Long story short - I sold only 1 of my items doing it their way which, mind you, was far more time consuming than how I had done it in the past.

Fast forward to 2014... I finally decided to give eBay another go, selling a heap of household items I no longer wanted. Again, I have sold everything - doing it my way!!

That's when a light bulb went off.

When I first joined Wealthy Affiliate I'd been wanting to write my memoirs in a blog format. Yet the training pushes 'the niche' and I figured the only way I could do what I wanted was to create 5 blogs - one for each aspect of my life. Yeah right!! Keeping 5 blogs going was never really going to happen for me, so I deleted 4 of them and focused on what I thought was the most important at the time. Thing is I get bored easily and writing about only one aspect of my life just wasn't doing it for me. Maybe I had to go back to a book format.

It occurred to me that perhaps my niche was my whole life. Ultimately, my readers are my children and grandchildren. Yet I have no doubt I will collect others on the way.

Sure, I probably won't make as much money doing it this way, but making money is not my #1 priority. Sharing the stories and adventures of my life is.

Please don't get me wrong. I absolutely love all the training here at WA and understand the need for a niche. However, if I don't write the way I want to then it's simply not going to happen at all - and that would be a tragedy in my eyes.

I'm now in the process of setting up the foundations of Sib's Adventures and am extremely excited. As I copy what I want, over from Finding Slim Sib, I am deleting it from there and very soon Finding Slim will no longer exist.

Here's to the stories and adventures of my life!!

Hi Sib. Just dropping by.;)

you are welcome sib.

Sib I was reading your website and PLEASE continue writing. I was engaged with everything you were talking about. The weight, wedding, etc. I can personally relate with the weight part being that I had lost 120pounds.. I think every woman can identify with the war with scale & how it dictates how our day goes. Continue writing Sib. U got this:)

Thank you dear girl, I REALLY appreciate this wonderful feedback.

And HUGE congratulations on shedding 120lbs.

keep writing Sib.

Thank you LaMarr, I certainly will. Just wish I had more hours in each day :)

I really like your blog. I just read your perfume post. Well done on the $41. I'm not sure which product you sold, not sure from looking at your posts.

You make everything sound like a personal communication--well done. I realize your goal is a type of online memoir and not a sales driven blog. For all that, I think it's hard to write personally and promote at the same time.

You've got a knack for connecting with readers in a friendly way.

Mary

Thank you Mary. The $41 was actually made on a product I have not yet transferred over to Sib's Adventures yet, but will do at the next available opportunity. I definitely ONLY want to be promoting what comes to me naturally... so yet, I am aware I probably won't make nearly as much money as others, yet I trust my authenticity will shine through and that might help.

As I read your blog, it made me wonder about my own writing. I am writing about a niche I am passionate about, but I tend to worry about keywords, what will drive traffic and what Google wants. I certainly need to re evaluate my writing style...you have my brain thinking about 100 different things right now. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

You're most welcome dear girl. I trust you will come up with your own answers that suit you best :)
