Organization: WA To Do List

I'm a person that has to have a kind of order in everything that I do. When I do laundry I have to hang up my clothes (I don't have a dryer) by matching up all the correct sock pairs together, turning shirts and pants inside out, lining up everything in a particular way, so that when I go to put it all away once they're dry I don't have to work so hard. I fold towels, bed sheets, and clothes in a certain orderly fashion that is very visually pleasing (well at least for me), so that when I put them away I can see right away what I have. When I have a ton of things I have to do in my day, I make a "To do" list with the check boxes next to each task. This way I can concentrate on each task at hand one by one and feel the satisfaction of accomplishing them when I check the box off.

I'm sure there are those of you who can relate. It's our innate instinct to be organized.

When I started with WA, it was a little overwhelming as to what to do first. Everything was so new and I wanted to read it and discover all of it, at the same time. I now have made my to do list for when I log in to WA. And this is how it looks like:

WA Daily To Do List:

1. Check Notifications and Emails

2. Read one interesting and useful blog post.

3. Do course lessons.

4. Watch one webinar class (1/week)

5. Ask or look up at least one question. (which might end up a blog post).

And in the end take notes on all useful and important information.

Do you have a WA To Do List?

How does yours look like?

Do you have any tips or advice you can share about mine?

Lists and outlines can be extremely powerful in many ways. They can not only bring direction and methodical purpose to daily activities (as in the WA daily list), but they can also break complex tasks into a series of small and manageable steps. Preparing lists ahead of time can also allow the subconscious mind to begin working on the tasks, generating solutions we otherwise might not have thought of. If nothing else, lists are a constant taskmaster to remind us of what needs to be accomplished despite the constant distractions all around us. Your WA task list is good, but what lies beyond it? Are those efforts part of another list or outline that is wider in scope?

Hi Steve,

I love your insights! Especially about the subconscious.
The list I made is for a basic beginners set of duties to achieve. Basically a Getting started list just like the course 1.
Thank you for your comments, they are very helpful!

List brainstorming works so well to think through complex processes. For example, we could think of a rocket trip to Mars as the big list, and then build, launch, and navigate the rocket as smaller sub-lists. With every added step, that trip becomes more possible. Eventually we've thought of just about everything, and all that remains is to do the tasks.

It's a powerful strategy, no matter how simple or complex the task is. Got a life bucket list? Only a plan of action can make it come true, otherwise it probably never will. It all becomes possible with a list. :-)

Yes, you're absolutely right! Without a plan we're like a train without the rail track.
