Unique Marketing Campaign

Did you ever think anyone would buy a lump of coal as a Christmas gift? Well, they did. And lots of them! As Mel, onmyownterms, mentioned in his latest blog, https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/onmyownterms/blog/a-creative-amazon-campaign-idea, he bought a lump of coal. Here is a unique marketing campaign idea - promoting a holiday gift on your website to provide some stress relief during the holidays. He even mentioned that it is possible that you might get other sales. (He didn't mention if he bought anything else). If you sold a stress reliever, you would be helping others and yourself at the same time. Everyone wins!

Listening to the radio the other day, I heard the radio announcer comment on how Nordstrom was selling a rock in a leather pouch for $85 online and that they had sold out. The announcer couldn't believe that people were actually paying $85 for a rock. He said it was just a regular rock you would find in your yard.

Curiosity got the better of me and I had to check this out, so I first went to www.snopes.com. This site is my first stopping point when I read something unbelievable online. Snopes said this statement was true. So, next I went to Nordstrom's web site. They are indeed selling this rock in a pouch. They also offer a smaller version for just $65. The website states the rock is from the Los Angeles area and comes in a hand-sewn leather pouch.

There are many news stations reporting this story. Great publicity if this is your product.

Note: I went back to the site to get more info in order to write this post and discovered the rock in a pouch has sold out and no longer appears on their website. If you would like to see the full details, you may read what Snopes says about it here:

Stress relief is important and it seems Amazon, Nordstom and others are aware of this. You just need a unique item and some good marketing. Remember pet rocks? It may be too late to try this in 2016, but there is always next year to try this out. Why not offer an item year round? People are under stress all year. Tailor it to the season and see what happens.

If people are willing to buy these items, we should have no trouble selling our products with the right tools and training as offered here at WA. So, if your sales aren’t where you want them to be, then get back into the lessons and see what you missed. I am. I had slacked off a bit, but I found an app, that I add reminders in, to remember to write my articles and I am sticking to it. I’m not too bad at writing my articles, but I could use some improvement. However, I have been concentrating on articles and not getting the lessons done. I am missing some steps to have a successful business.

So as Mel wrote about giving lumps of coal for Christmas, now you have a choice of a rock in a pouch (if they come back in stock) or coal.

I can't wait for my friend to get his 'stocking stuffer' tomorrow. Thanks for the shout-out. Next year, I'm going to be building a site entirely around lumps of coal for the holiday. Too funny! Love the rock thing too....

I'll have to make a note to look for your site.
I noticed in a gas station in AL, where I live, they were selling small bags of white gravel as GA rock. Looks like you may have hit on a good idea with your website. Stress relievers may really work.

Thanks for the comment Mel.

Very interesting and thought provoking, thank you.

Thank you Phil.
