Can't Get Too Excited!
Hello everyone,
Just had to let you all know that today at my full-time job I was speaking with a gentleman that asked me how he could advertise a patented product he has on the internet!
Well, I guess you all know what I had to say to this? Yep, you got it! I explained what I do and gave him my website address to take a look. He then proceeds to tell me that he doesn't want to do the advertising he wants someone else to do it for him.
He suggested that he and I go into business together to sell this product online. Now, mind you, I do not yet know what this product is or what it does, but I will take a look and see if we can work together.
He also is a hair stylist, and he asked me if I would be interested in selling Professional hair products online. Again, I suggested we talk and see what we can work out.

Need some advice here community! What do you all think about this and should I be nervous to go into business with someone I do not know?
Advice needed!!!
Thanks

Awesome Sheila,
I would Google Him and His Businesses then proceed from there.
Get everything in writing and make sure that there is a way to track sales.
Congratulations my Friend!
Tony
Thanks, Tony,
I will Google him, and once he gives me more information on his product, I will see if it is marketable.
Thanks and will keep you informed.
Never know, it may not even happen!
Sheila
Great news Sheila! Just get more details and decide whether you think his products align with your mission. Anything in your website partly represents you so you need to be happy with that. Good luck and let us know how you go!
Thank you Liz for that great advice! I will see how things go and move on from there.
Sheila
Hi Sheila, what a wonderful opportunity that has presented itself. You never know what is around the next corner. This has made my day. Just think back 6 months, would you have had the skill set to run with something like this.
The key is to do some back ground checks on the person, also look at the product that has been developed and products that he is offering you to promote. Look at the financial ramifications both cost and return. Business ventures with other folks can be lucrative, as long as you define the roles of the partners and have clear parameters about out comes and also how you plan to exit the venture .
Being nervous is healthy, follow your instincts, usually works. No harm in looking. I have been on two sides of the fence personally, some work , some don't. It's about managing associated risk. Go for it.
I couldn't agree with you more Evan!
Sheila, I think it's a great opportunity.
But check it out and, if you decide to do it, get a lawyer.
I own a business and started it with 2 others and everything had to be legally binding for everyone's protection.
Have an 'out' written in if you want so you can bail out if you don't like what happens.
Good luck and I can't wait to hear more..
David
Hey Dave,
I was thinking exactly that same thing about a lawyer! I didn't even think about an out if need be so thank you for that tip!
I will let you all know how things go and I am not jumping into anything. I know one thing, I will have to go with my gut feelings and if they say no I will not do it.
Thanks
Sheila
Hey Alexander,
Thank you for your great insight. I am nervous but yes that is normal, I guess!
I will listen to him and check out everything since I have been getting great advice here and I appreciate all the advice.
No one knows how much I appreciate how much this community cares about everyone.
I will need to definitely get some legal advice if it actually takes place. I am very nervous, but that could be because it is a new adventure and I am not familiar with how to handle it as of yet.
Thanks again
Sheila
I'd be careful about jumping into this situation even if it is a good product especially since you don't know him. You obviously impressed him though!
He told me he can see the passion I have for my online business, and that is what he is looking for in a person who handles his product.
I will be very careful and take it one day at a time.
Thanks
Sheila
Proceed with caution. I learned about the pitfalls of going into business with someone the hard way. Never again.
Thank you Mike,
Glad you took the time to read and give me your advice. I sure will proceed with caution.
Sheila
I'm not saying don't do it, but just proceed with caution and check everything out very carefully. Wish you all the best, Sheila.
I understood what you were saying and I sure will do my research! I will also want to make it legal!
Thanks Mike
Sheila, clickbank can do this very well, they can promote the products, and throw open to their many affiliates, or just be vendor to sell directly to buyers and distributors. There are many possibilities out there. If you sign up to clickbank check what they have to say.
Hey Elijah,
I never gave that a thought! Thanks for that tip! I am signed up to Clickbank, but never really did anything with them.
Thanks again
Sheila
"Trust but verify"! Build for the best outcome and plan fro the worst, make sure that all areas of your relationship are defined ahead of time. Just saying, :)
Thank you for that great advice! This is new to me and I never expected to have an offer like this presented to me.
I will definitely want some type of contract and have it legal!
Thanks
Sheila

Wow! Interesting dilemma! The only thing to add to the terrific advice so far is to trust your gut. You have nothing to lose at this stage of the game, so remember that you have the advantage. He wants you. You want a fair deal. Take your time to check everything out. Any pressure that he puts on you, even passively, is a no-no, and could even be a deal breaker. Partnering with you will need to be on your terms. Don't settle for less, unless it makes complete sense. Keep us posted! Carol
Thanks carol! More great advice and I will definitely keep this all in mind!
