A slideshow is scripted content and often in an I frame which is not good for searchengine spiders. However, it is a nice layout option if you have a top menu that the spiders can access.
It does look really nice especially for top 5 or top 10 type deal. My theme allows only one menu the main. Not sure what you mean. I was wondering if I should have google fetch each url, page 1, page 2 and so on.
Spiders like fast access to your pages. One of the benefits of having a top menu instead of a side menu is that spiders see it as one of the first items and can therefore crawl your pages faster.
So if you have content in an I-frame it does not really matter much since the spiders already encountered your top menu first.
