Downsizing

We are downsizing. From 1700 sqft to 758 sqft! The accumulation of 'stuff' is overwhelming!

The things we own that have NEVER been used... I have a collection of dishes, cookware, and various kitchen items that haven't seen the light of day in years! What's up with that? (And that's just the kitchen)!!

I am finding this exercise freeing as well. Getting rid of the excess has lifted a weird weight off of my shoulders. (Who knew getting rid of a blender could do that)?

As we go from room to room, I fear that Goodwill will, eventually, become afraid of seeing one of our vehicles pulling up to the 'Donation Entrance.' From clothes to kitchen items, and onward to all the other miscellaneous items that we are donating, I fear that they will start to run and hide when they see our truck coming with another load. (This is why we are contributing to various locations... maybe they won't catch on then)!

The most challenging item to downsize? Books. I love books... and boy, do I have books! Shelves FULL of books. Textbooks, Medical books, Journals, non-fiction, fiction, and repair books, we've got them! That's the one thing I will miss is the 'Library.' But again, who needs three editions of the same book? (Apparently, I thought I did)! Out go the 'old' copies, and I keep the newest. The City Library here may also start to hide in fear!

As we move through the house, I have also had to sell some of my business inventory. I thought it would take me longer than it did to do this, but it happened in record time with no advertising! Closing the practice just flowed naturally! (For that, I am grateful).

Why and Where?

The house we are in no longer fits us or our budget. It's too big for two people and has become a financial pit! LOL. We want to have some freedom...of time and money.

We will be moving into Thing 2's Condo. With the market the way it is here, he can't sell it without losing money, so he's renting it to us! While I've never pictured myself in an apartment, I'm looking forward to this. No more yard maintenance, less area to clean, and we get to keep our fur babies! Win-Win!!

Well, off to pack more boxes!!
Have an AWESOME DAY!!

Great share, thanks

Sounds like an awesome experience...when I left Kodiak, went through something similar. I have lots of books -- still -- but got rid of so many! Had four garage sales; took boxes of books to the thrift stores. I had two houses to unload, and the one on Spruce Island had 1,800 books. Not sure how many I had at home. Yes, it is certainly nice to lighten the load.

A great niche , I have the same argument about all the CD's and DVD's in the cupboard, we have a digital household and have nothing to play them on but the argument always comes back that "maybe one day...". Downsizing is massive right now.. but maybe not yet as far as those CD's and DVD's are concerned :(

I love holding them in my hands, Phil, and I have many things to play them on, but one day, they too shall all go--one way or another!

Good luck.
Remember - if you haven't used it in the last 6 months - you don't need it!

I was emotionally attached to that blender...LOL.
I'm finding things that I haven't seen in a few years!
Thanks for the Luck... I'm going to need it 😅

Congratulations on your new place and yes we do accumulate lots of stuff I love books as well

I may have to download a few onto my tablet!!
