Staying put, Changing Careers or Leaving it All Behind?

"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life." ~ Steve Jobs~

Often times we grow up following the traditional role of graduating from high school, entering college and then later find a job suited to the degree you went to college with - and maybe later meet someone special, get married, start a family...live the idea life of "having it all."

But is that REALLY what everyone wants? Probably most, but not everyone. While most of us have jobs working for others, there are many branching away from that. Taking a risky decision to start their own businesses, be their own bosses, sail their own oceans.

There is also a group that is still sitting on the fence. Trying to figure out a plan, maybe an idea comes to mind but there is hesitation. A little bit of fear. The temptation to work for one's self, making lots of money vs. a set salary and having financial freedom is quite an achievement, perhaps even fulfilling after years of being in debt, living paycheck to paycheck, barely having a $100 bucks left at the end of the month. OK, more like $10 bucks at the end of the month if some of us are really honest with ourselves.

But the quote that Steve Jobs once said does have some merit. While working for a company, organization, agency or entity is not a bad thing, sometimes staying can be more debilitating than taking a risk to change careers, changing jobs or even quitting to start one's own business may cause may people to flinch with anxiety.

Now I am not advocating to quit your job now if you still have bills to pay; no...start your own business on the side, affiliate marketing, virtual consulting, click funnels, or even printing tee-shirts and selling them....don't be absurd and just up and quit because that is utter foolishness.

It Takes Courage to Letting Go the Familiar and Embracing the New.

Perhaps leadership in your organization has changed and duties you were assigned to are no longer yours; you may even find yourself doing things you first started doing when you were hired years ago. It is something I am in the middle of right now and it is utterly frustrating and a bit demoralizing.

It could be a slap in the face after acquiring previous work experience and knowledge, but now no one wants to utilize those very same services and skill-set you can provide because those in a higher position have their own favorites in the company and you do not play office politics the way they want you to. But don't fret. There are always options.

Seeking more challenging employment elsewhere is always another option. You can still work your side gigs (bigger dreams you want for yourself on the side like expanding your online business thru learning, networking and training here at WA, for example).

People like reassurance. People also like a job with benefits. People like security and familiarity. Nothing wrong with that but sometimes when an opportunity to learn more about having a business online such as affiliate marketing presents itself, it might be good to give it some serious consideration AND still be in search of a better job opportunity should you decide to take on that venture.

Learning a new skill that will create you a wealth of income that takes time and is best started part-time may be the better way for you to go while keeping your job. However, you could always decide it is time to move on and find employment but still learn more about the new skill or a new business venture like market affiliation.

It may be scary and you might even hesitate at subscribing to becoming a member like we do at the WA site, but that's where the mind-set has to change: investing in yourself, learning more and getting training in something totally different is WORTH membership. If you don't invest in yourself, who can you rely on to do so?

Your employer may invest in you for as long as you can provide a service that will create revenue for that employer; use that same principle and start gearing it towards YOUR OWN business by what I call "SELF-INVESTING".

It's not a new concept. It has been around for centuries. Small businesses have thrived throughout history and now, it is even easier to do so online, but it will take time, effort and some financial commitment.

To Self-Invest today is more important than ever as the job market fluctuates as daily as the stock market.

Do your homework. Research online business ventures carefully. Not all of them are like WA.

Many of us, myself included, have been ripped off, cheated, been made a fool because we trusted the wrong people, wrong organization and plain didn't do our homework well enough to determine if we invested ourselves in a business venture worth considering.

We have all heard of various "Ponzi schemes"; we have all, to some degree, been taken in with promises of "get-rich-quick" with only $10 to invest...or just invite 5 friends and have them give $10 each...the BS Blah goes on and on.

WA here is not like that at all. You get out of it what you put into it. There are those here that are HIGHLY successful and those who are just starting to learn how to use their "golden fleece" in the concept of affiliate marketing. There are those of us here that have been here awhile, then left and came back.

And those, like myself, who work at it little by little because there are other priorities that take precedence. Does that mean I won't be successful here? Of course not. WA puts no demands on you except to encourage you to "be better" than where you are at now.

It gives you the tools. It provides a plethora (love that word) of networking opportunities thru the multitudes of community members who wish you the best, provide helpful tips, ask pertinent questions and even give you links to or where to look up great blogs and trainings available.

How can you not succeed here? Its just a question of your own decision to move forward, how much time you want to SELF-INVEST in it and what are your ultimate goals for being part of this global digital community - yep, it's all about YOU.

What you put into it, you will get out of it.

So while I am in transition of taking on a new job opportunity (within the public sector), I still enjoy blogging here, reading others' blogs, providing comments and feedback, take the training at my own pace and work my website.

It is still a SELF-INVESTMENT that I am so glad I found a few months ago and I look forward to my future here along with the rest of all you.

Happy Weekend!

Well done! 100% with you...Thanks for sharing.

I think the concept of self-investing is an excellent one. We must invest in ourselves and our future -- most likely, no one will do it for us. If we gather the courage to do so, we should be applauded and encouraged. Overcoming fears and pushing boundaries will get us there.

Fran, I appreciate your comnents. Yes, self-investing is key! Thanks for your comments!
