Hinton, West Virginia - A Short History

In 1927, Hinton, Avis and a very small community called Bellepoint, consolidated into what is now the City of Hinton, located in Summers County, WV.

But way before this, in the year 1831, what was a small fraction of the city today was started as a railway maintenance and important shipping point when the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway was operated solely on steam technology.

With over 200 historical buildings, several tourist attractions and natural wonders, The City of Hinton is a wonderful place to visit with your family. This is something that I did with my family yesterday and I wanted to share with you what I discovered.

The Bluestone Lake, created by a fairly large dam, is quite the view. You can actually walk on top of the dam, which overlooks a Little League baseball field. There was a game in progress while my family and I looked on from the dam. It was pretty neat!

Purchasing two pieces of replica Van Goehs were the highlight of my day in Hinton. I bought these beauties, one a framed Irises and the other a large, stretched canvas of a work of his that I forget the name of, at an amazing shop called Boho.

This was, by far, one of my all-time favorite brick & mortar stores that I have ever been in. And $105 later, I own two beautiful pieces of artwork that are quite inspiring for my creative self to muse over for, hopefully, many years to come.

When you get a chance, visit Hinton, West Virginia. There's a lot of history and beauty to this place!

I love West Virginia! Have been there a couple of times and had a great experience. Now you've given me a new place to add to my "go to" list.

You’re welcome! So glad to help!

Thanks for the new vacation spot. We tend to always visit the more known areas, the big cities, travel the more well-documented roads. Meanwhile, we miss all the charms that take place in smaller towns, and we especially miss out on the warmth and diversity of nature that lives there.

It’s a quaint city with some history to boot. Thanks for reading!

Shannon
