Making dog food
Today I am going to be making some dog food instead of purchasing can food that sometimes get contaminated with Melamine.
On my profile, you can see this bear of a dog with a very foggy forest background. That's Max, and he is 10. That was taken last month on the Pacific Crest Trail. We hiked the Irish Taylor Burn area. He carried his own food and water. We hiked approximately 13 miles that day. The trail full of down logs and debris for approximately 7 miles. He needed a rest. Fact is, I needed a rest, so I took his picture.
When I first adopted him, he was 2. After about 6 months, Max cost me approximately $1000 in vet bills because he was constantly getting diarrhea and upchucking. The vet first suspected wheat, then corn, then the stream he was swimming in containing E Coli. By the way, that stream is a big one called Lewis River.
I was at the time working for GlaxoSmithKline as a medical researcher. Deciding that the vets didn't know what they were doing, I took matter into my own two grimy hands and check out all his food intake by process of elimination.
Finally, I decided that his dog food (wet food from a can) were bad, and go online to see if there's any complaints. At this point, most of you have probably know that I am talking about the major recall. Wish I have time to watch tv. :)
Here is my formula if anyone wants to save some money and get better results for their dogs.
3 cups of meat (I used 2 cups ground chicken and 1 cup ground turkey this time)
5 cups of grain (I only used ancient grains)
2 cups of vegetables (fruit, vegetables, or anything in season)
Toss everything into a crock pot. cook them for 6 hours with enough water. Freeze them in Tupperware in small batch.

Thanks for sharing. I'll have to try that some time with my dog.
You are welcome.
I put some milk powder in for taste at the end. Please make sure you coated the crock pot with Pam before you start. It could be a sticky mess otherwise.
Great tips! Thanks!
