Already Succeeding
Wealthy Affiliate hasn't let me down yet. I have to say, I'm impressed. I am skeptical by nature, but this community has really shown promise.
I dropped out of college about a month ago to pursue a less taken, more independent path. I could never imagine having a job where I am sitting at the desk all day. I've always been creative and imaginative, and it was about time I start realizing that I wanted to create for a living. This ranges from theater to writing, to creating websites.
I love what I am doing right now. I am a restaurant server, am finally seeking out acting jobs, and have started my own website in the niche of the job that I love doing--waiting tables. I love that I get to create something that is completely mine and that others can see.
I've become very passionate about the things I am currently doing with my life. Within the next few months, I want to be earning substantial revenue from my website, enough to get me making as much money between serving and building my website as a full time job. Within the next six months, I want to be earning enough money to be able to quit my job if I wanted to (which I don't!)
If this all works out, I get to be making enough money to stabilize myself, while following my passions and staying true to my values: creativity, independence, isolation, extroversion, reason, love. I get to create websites, take an independent path, free of outside influence, enjoy alone time, but have small periods (I usually work 4-6 hour shifts) of being extroverted by talking to strangers and laughing with coworkers I've grown to love. And I can say I'm being reasonable by listening to myself and weighing all the options, and taking the most logical path possible. Not to mention, I get to spend more time with my family whom I love more than anything.
Thank you WA community and Kyle and Carson! I can't wait to move onto the making money stage.

Good luck Seamus. I also enjoy shifting between being alone (working on my online business etc at home) and then socializing through my work. In my case, I'm an English language teacher.
I was interested to read that you love being a server. When I was at university I got a job as a lunchtime waiter (the boss didn't trust me with the busy evening shift!). I was terrible at it. I made some crass mistakes and was just in it for the cash until the boss gently let me go!
Then I read Adam's Breed by Radclyffe Hall, a novel about an Italian waiter in London. That was an eye-opener for me. A year later I was teaching in Italy and was impressed by Italian waiters. I came to see waiting in a whole new light. I sometimes imagine myself taking on a job as a server just to try and make a better job of it.

I completely understand the whole independent path. I can't stand 9-5. I realized that when I was sitting at a desk job listening to someone tell me how I need to be more punctual. I just can't be a punctual person when I dread what I do! Starting your own online business will be work, but it can be based on what you love to talk about! As long as you work hard, stay consistent and have fun, your business will thrive Seamus!!
