Face Your Fears: Affiliate Marketing Edition

Let’s be real—affiliate marketing can feel scary sometimes. You’re putting yourself out there, building a blog or email list, sharing links, and hoping people don’t just roll their eyes. Fear sneaks in with questions like:

  • “What if no one clicks my links?”
  • “What if I look silly on video?”
  • “What if I fail?”

Sound familiar? Yeah, me too.

Why Fear is Normal

Fear shows up whenever you’re stepping into new territory. It’s your brain’s way of saying, “Hey, this is different!” Instead of seeing fear as a stop sign, try viewing it as a green light—it means you’re moving forward.

Common Affiliate Marketing Fears

  1. Fear of Rejection – You might worry about people unsubscribing or ignoring your content. That’s normal. Not everyone is your audience, and that’s okay.
  2. Fear of Visibility – Posting videos, writing personal stories, or sharing your photo online can feel intimidating. But showing up is what builds trust.
  3. Fear of Failure – The big one. Truth: most affiliate marketers “fail” a few times before they figure out what works. That’s part of the learning curve.

How to Confront These Fears

  • Start Small: Instead of launching a huge campaign, try one blog post, one email, or one short video. Tiny steps build confidence.
  • Reframe Failure: Each “flop” is just data. You learn what doesn’t work so you can pivot.
  • Find Your Tribe: Join a supportive community (like Wealthy Affiliate) where others understand the ups and downs. Fear shrinks when you’re not alone.
  • Celebrate Wins: Even the small ones—like your first click or comment—because momentum matters.

Key Takeaway

Affiliate marketing isn’t about never being afraid—it’s about doing the thing anyway. Courage isn’t the absence of fear, it’s moving forward in spite of it.

So go ahead—hit publish, share your link, record that video. The only real failure is never trying.

Me Confronting my Fear

Sometimes what holds you back from being successful is fear. I'm sure all of you reading this have specific fears that you wish you could overcome. Well, I'm taking an online course to improve myself and one of my tasks to to face a fear. I do have several fears myself. To complete my task, I need to create a short video of myself confronting a fear. I identified 3 of my fears:

  1. I have a fear of heights
  2. I have a fear of snakes
  3. I have a fear of speaking in front of a camer.

I chose to confront fear #3 since it would be harder to video the other two.

I chose this fear because I'm an affiliate marketer. I create affiliate blogs to earn commissions. At present I'm not a very succdessful marketer. One reasons is I have refused to utilize YouTube in promoting my blog sites because of my fear of speaking in front of a camera.

So I'm attaching my video speaking on video to confront that fear. I truly hope this helps me overcome the fear of creating Youtube videos to promote my blog site information. Thank you for reading and watching this.

Have a great Day - Shirley

Good morning Shirley,

Bravo for taking that first step in video and breaking that fear!

That's a brilliant step in the right direction!

I can tell you from experience, that it does get much easier!

I make quite a few how to type videos, so only show a small picture of myself, in the corner of the screen, as I want the main focus to be on my screen share, rather than me. This is also helpful when you're starting out, as people are not directly looking at you, they're looking at the instructions you are giving on the video.

As a man I follow on YouTube says, "your first video is your worst video", although that's not always the case! Another thing he says is, "just press record!"

Have a great day and thank you for the update.

Roy

Hi Shirley,

I'm so proud of you! You confronted the camera monster and took an important step forward. :)
Don't lose momentum, start creating YouTube videos.

I've found that the most important thing to move forward is to confront our fears. They hold us back and don’t benefit us in the long run.

To your success!

Best,
Maria

This is truly inspiring, Shirley!

Facing fears doesn’t always look like heroism. It often looks like just pressing record anyway. Your honesty about fear of speaking on camera and taking that brave step is such a powerful nudge for anyone reading.

As you wrote: fear isn’t a stop sign. It’s a green light showing you’re stepping into the unknown. Your video doesn’t just check a box. It opens a door for others who feel that hesitation every time they hover over “publish.”

Thank you for being real, vulnerable, and bold. You’ve shown that courage isn’t the absence of fear. It’s choosing to move forward despite it.

Here’s to more voice, more light, and more shared breakthroughs. 🙌🤗
