Where have I been?
Well I have not been around for about a week and a half! Have not been working at the day job either. I have had some medical issues to deal with. All those years of not eating healthy, smoking cigarettes and drinking beer has finally caught up with me! I don't drink a lot but I used to smoke like a fiend and I like to eat good food. If it's good food it's not good for you! I did quit smoking in January 2016.
I have been feeling lousy for the past few months and couldn't shake it. 1 or 2 days feeling bad, maybe a day or 2 feeling OK. Up and down like that for about 3 months. Turns out I have diabetes and a couple minor blockages in my heart. The blockages are about 40% now and they will not put stints in until they are at least 70%. They may never get there if I eat healthier and get more exercise. I thought I was getting plenty of exercise at work. My job is pretty physical.
For those of you who have diabetes will know what I am talking about here. My AC1 was 8.5, it is supposed to be under 6. 6 and above you are diabetic. 5.5 to 6 you are borderline. I have to do the finger stick a couple of times a day to check blood sugar. I have been doing it about 6 times a day, before and after eating just to see where I am at and what causes a spike in blood sugar. I am taking diabetes medicine and changing my diet. It is still kind of all over the place. I have been cutting out all sugars and starches and cutting down in the carbs. If it's good I can't have it and I sure would like a thin crust pizza with mushrooms, onions, green peppers, sausage and pepperoni, and a healthy dose of hot sauce! No more cake, cookies, ice cream or Suzy Q's and chocolate milk! I may be able to do the pizza once in a while but I have to make it myself with low fat, low starch dough and sauce. Probably have to skip the pepperoni and use turkey sausage, which is actually pretty good. I didn't know the difference until someone told me I was eating it!
Both of these medical problems run in the family on both sides. My heart Dr. won't release me back to work until Wednesday. Well it sucks getting old! This may have been avoided if I would have been eating healthier the past 30 years. Even when I was in the Army, they didn't feed you healthy. 10 years, Marine Corps and Army. I thought the food was pretty good in both branches but now that I think back on it, not very healthy. I think they have changed that a lot over the years as the population becomes more diet and health conscious .
Well I may smell a couple of websites here although very tough niches!

Hi Scott, I also had my last cigarette on January 13th this year, have heart and BP problems and have just discovered that I am borderline diabetic - I am waiting to have another blood test in 3 weeks so they can compare levels at that stage. I know where you're coming from my friend - anything that's nice is bad for you! Take care :)
