How to Live Long in Life

This has nothing to do with spirit or religion (both fantastic things).

But it does have to do with how to live long in life.

What I’m about to say might not be incredibly popular. But on the other hand, with the Wealthy Affiliate community being what it is, this life hack might be appreciated.

Guess we will see!

I’ve never been into watching much TV. In fact, we don’t even own one.

There goes half the people who were reading this…

I’m not an alien. Sometimes I will download movies to watch on our computer or tablets.

And I’ve subscribed to Netflix on and off when there are specific shows I’m interested in.

Unless you are a math nerd like me and have already crunched the numbers on this before, you may not have considered the numbers I'm about to lay out.

The average time spent watching TV DAILY (in America, not sure for other countries) is four hours.

Take four hours day for a week (7 days) and you get 28 hours.

That’s 120 hours after a month.

And 1460 hours after a year.

Most start watching TV around the age of three or four.

Let’s think positively and say you live until you are 90 (you could live much longer).

Your grand total would be 127,020 hours of watching TV.

Hopefully I didn’t lose anyone.

Let’s take this one step further.

The average man is awake 14 hours a day.

Take 127,020 and divide this by 14 and you get 9072.

If you take 9027 and divide this by 365 (days in a year) then you reach 24.8 years.

Round that up to 25.

I’m sure you see where I’m going with this now…

That is 25 YEARS of awake days you would add to your life by removing TV.

Just saying…

Could you put an extra 25 years to use?

Even if you knocked off a couple hours of TV a day, you would still give yourself 12 more years of activity.

What could you do with this extra time?

Comment below and let me know what you think!

Damn, I love this one- such bits of info can be incredibly valuable to drive home the point - dont we all want to live long healthy lives and have a bit of fun doing so till the end- TV or not. However, TV and its cohort become even more vital at certain age groups. So I always say, a mix of both- that balance coupled with healthy eating and hopefully no underlying issues and unfortunate misadventures leads to that long life

Good post, Sam, to a long healthy life 💪

I love it. Thanks my friend. I'm with you 100 percent =)

Here's to the same for you and yours.

L, Sam

This is a great post. TV is a problem I agree.

It is too easy to waste time on meaningless entertainment. Then for the entertainers to feel that they have something useful to say to their viewers simply because they have millions of viewers.

Talk about the tail wagging the dog.

When I was growing up (1970s) in small-town Canada there were ~50 of us around the same age in 2 different classes. (small classrooms).

Of those 50 only one family did not have a TV that I know of.
They, it was interesting I did not even know they had no TV until visiting one day.

Was it a coincidence that one of the children went on to become a Rhodes scholar? Maybe, but still interesting.

TVs can be educational, but 99% of the time they are not.

Hey Alex! So glad you agree.

And that's super interesting about the Rhodes scholar. Probably not a coincidence.

Yes, there are so many more meaningful things that can be done in life. L, Sam

Good point, Sam. Of course, people being out and about instead of watching TV might have a higher risk of accidents and any number of other calamities that take peoples' lives every single day! I am not a huge TV watcher, but sometimes that is the only quality time that I can get with my wife.

Good statistics, and interesting, indeed, but I guess, to each their own!

Jeff

Hey Jeff! Solid point. And that's very true. I appreciate you giving me an additional viewpoint to consider!

Thanks, Sam! Enjoy your day!

Jeff

Thanks for sharing, Sam.
I have not watched TV for some time now, and I didn't miss it.
Kids rarely play outside together anymore these days; they are either glued to the TV or phones.
A doctor friend does not allow her kids to watch TV; she said it's not good for their brain development.
All the same, there should be a balance.
Pick the lessons from the educative programs.

Thanks Muslimah. I appreciate your feedback and input on this. Yep, it's a visual age. In all forms. Good to hear you have some reality. And yes, it should be a proper balance and nothing is ever black and white. But it's good to outflow and interact more with the real world. Thanks! L, Sam
