Battling the Red Eyed Monster
Most of the last ten days has been spent in pitched battle with the gargantuan Red Eyed Monster. Not to be confused with his look-alike, the Green Eyed Monster of Jealousy, the Red Eyed Monster is the two-headed evil twin who lurks in the shadows waiting to destroy the lives of artists and writers everywhere. Those two heads - Fear and Doubt - will strike fear into the hearts of creative souls.
To make matters worse, or perhaps because of it, Mercury went retrograde about the same time my battle began. For those of you unversed in astrological lore, Mercury is planet which rules communication, travel and, oddly, thieves. Most people with a cursory knowledge of astrology tremble at the thought of Mercury retrograde, but it's really all about consolidation, introspection and self-awareness. Which is exactly where the Red Eyed Monster comes in!
I know very well that succeeding in internet marketing involves taking incremental steps every day. A little google plus here, a little tweet there (what is it about tweeting that is so terrifying to me?), some research and some writing. It's all so very simple. Just do it...chop wood, carry water, move forward. Which is exactly what I was incapable of doing last week. Oh, I was busy, very busy, but I accomplished absolutely nothing because I was overcome by the evil twins, Fear and Doubt, and I retreated at the end of the day into my cave to lick my wounds.
Since they are imaginary wounds, it appears that I have lived to fight another day! Mercury is retrograde into the beginning of July so I think my battle will continue for a few more weeks.
Perhaps I need to refine my goals for this time in order to give Mercury his due, give thought to what I'm doing and why. While defeating the monster is not an option, he can perhaps be tamed. Fear and Doubt are motivating factors that have a vital role to play in my creative process and are in fact part of my personality. So for now, the goal is simply to understand that and to not be paralyzed by it. To tame the beast so that I can chop wood and carry water! Then I can go back to being my overachieving self :-)

Ansley, Thank you for the imagery, It may be because I am, but could I assume that you have more than a bit of Scorp in your sign, no cuspy stuff but close to future king Charles, bang in the middle. Mercury can certainly be disruptive especially when to us it really matters like now.
Ahhhhhh.....So I am not the only one, Ohhhhh, I am not alone in the battle after all, what comforting news from the front..... Is that a bit of strength I feel flowing back into my sword arm? A bit of steely resolve not to give in and flee the fight? Could it be that there could be many more of us doing battle against the Red Eyed Monster than I ever could have imagined? Thanks for the encouraging news from the front, Ansley, I'll see you on the Battlefield!

No I always knew if was more than the snippet in the paper, for a friend of mine who really knew her astrology once did me quite an in depth reading even to include time and place of birth.. was a lot of work
The first time I had it done, it scared the dickens out of me! The good news is that nowadays the "lot of work" can be handled by computers, so the mapping is fairly easy. The interpretation will always be an art form, and is definitely the hard part!
lol whilst I cannot claim much knowledge in astrology, I do not believe it is a simple as just the horoscope in the daily newspaper, however being a gemini I will use my other head to deal with the monster and the other to get on with my learning and work. enjoyed your post
The stuff in the newspaper is an oversimplification which became popular with the publishing of an astrological analysis of one of the British princesses (I forget which) some years ago. The only way to summarize into a couple of sentences was to make it based on sun signs (like the Leo, Gemini, etc.)...but real astrology is NOT based on the sun signs alone. It's like trying to make a gourmet meal with only one ingredient! Probably more than you wanted to know :-)
I feel your pain. I myself battle the red eyed monster all the time. Thats why i love this community. There is always someone here that has your back so you dont have to go into battle alone. Good luck in your battle.
Have a great day!
Unfortunately, I tend to fight my battles alone - comes from being an only child (although I had two brothers). I'm still learning how wonderful a community can be and I truly appreciate everyone here.
Well if you ever need help fighting a battle please feel free to get in touch with me and we will battle together!! You dont have to go it alone anymore!!
