Creating a Website with my name as the domain

Hi everyone. So my website has been coming along quite nicely. Now that I have a sense on how to operate it and what to write in my posts, I wanted to join affiliate networks that would allow me to promote music educational material.

My site right now (http://howtowritemusic.me/) is currently all about writing music. However, I wanted to expand this idea into how to read music, music philosophy and I wanted to sell my own music on my site. This way I could promote products along with selling my own music and my soon to be instructional e-books.

My question though is can I do this if I change my domain name to my name. I want my website's address to be salbonafede.com (my name). This way I could have a page where I sell my music and create blog posts about music education that will have affiliate links to products I want to promote.

Has anyone has any experience with this and if so, does this sound like a feasible idea? Thanks so much guys.

I agree Peej has a good answer for you. Good luck...your site I am sure will do very well. I know a lot of people are looking for this type of thing.

Peej has you covered - I'd take his advice!

Your name I think is always the best branding for your site or you can also take howtowriteandreadmusic.com but that's totally up to you. I think that keywords in the domain name are not so important because I think that the search engines are taking it post per post. (But I am not 100% sure about this)

Understood....but, much of the power of SEO comes from the domain name itself. The homepage.

I can see where your current domain name has some age on it. This is a good thing for SEO. Also, "howto" websites typically do well, because web surfers type these keywords in a lot and it's easy to remember.

Changing to a new website address can be done, but it will change up your search results for a period of time. It will make it a bit more difficult to obtain search engine traffic. Timewise, it's a step back.

Now, if you create a new website and link to it from your present website, this would help. Again, it's just that the present website has a great starting point in the search engines and likely a few inbound links.

So you would recommend starting a second website, putting my music there and selling it, and link the two sites together?

Yes, use your current site as the marketing platform and link to the new one from there. Create and optimize the current website for SEO and keep adding content. Sell your music from the new websites. Also, make use of YouTube. This can help tremendously. i have seen artists make it to T.V. from YouTube alone. Create a following - embed your videos from YouTube, etc.

Thanks for the help dude. I really appreciate it.

Anytime!

With linking to the new one do you mean making a redirect to the new domain or placing links on the old website to the new?

direct links to the secondary website.

Peej got some good ideas. I agree with him.

:-) Thank you Dinh!

Good point. I have purchased domain in my nams too. Because I think mh name is the only niche that is always affiliated to me.
