What it Takes To Succeed Online
In my time since starting my online business, I've met lots of people looking to do the same. And many of these people seem to run into the same frustrations and issues. So I thought I'd write this article to address some of these issues, and to maybe give people a clearer idea as to what's involved in building a successful online business.
The first main issue that I find a lot of people stumble upon is expectations, or more accurately, unrealistic expectations.
Most people know, when starting a business, that there's normally a period of time involved where there has to be a lot of input, and a lot of time invested that doesn't necessarily pay back initially. And building a business online is no different.
One Step at a Time - Easy Tiger!
There are steps that have to be put in place before those sales can come. First of all, a website has to be created, and necessary skills and procedures have to be learned and put into place before a website can even become operational.
I think many people's expectations is that they will build a website, place a few affiliate links on there and bang!, they're going to start selling. But this really just isn't the case. Just because you may have affiliate links. And just because you may have a website doesn't mean that there's anyone coming to visit.
Search engines generally take a while to actually begin to trust a website, especially a new one!. And this trust is built through two things for the main part.
Content & Value - The Secret to Success
The first of these is "Content". Content is probably the most important single step towards creating a successful website. Regular content that provides "Value" to the visitor needs to be created and published on a regular basis. One of the main pitfalls that many people run into is building a website, filling it full of products and affiliate links and expecting people to just buy. Many visitors will only buy from a website that they trust. And so creating articles that help visitors, creating articles that inform visitors and provide visitors with value and promote "Trust" is also of massive importance towards creating a successful internet strategy.
Once Google and other search engines begin to see regular content, content with value being added to your website, and can see that visitors are interacting with the site, they will begin to place trust in it. As Google begins to place trust, you begin to work your way further up the search engines. And your pages will begin to get ranked. But this takes time.
To give you some idea as to the amount of work involved in becoming successful and creating a full time income from a website, upwards of 300, 350, 400 articles is not at all considered extreme. SEO,"Search Engine Optimization" plays a very large part too and researching good quality keywords for each of the articles that you write is instrumental to them being found by relevant visitors.
Connecting and Building Trust
Feedback is also vitally important as this allows visitors of the website to interact with you, further building trust. And this in turn is seen by the search engines and allows them to have more confidence that the website that you've created and the content that you're creating is providing value to your visitors.
In some cases, there's not even much point in putting affiliate links onto your website until you have an amount of quality content on there. And the same can be said for approaching companies with regard to becoming an affiliate to sell their products. Unless you have a website that they feel is going to adequately showcase their products and generate sales for them then it's possible that you could be turned down as an affiliate if you approach these companies prematurely.
So the main things with regard to building a successful internet business is to build a great website with lots of engaging content, reviews, and helpful articles that provide value to your visitors. It can be helpful to think of every article that you write as being another cherry on the tree. Imagine that your website is a shop. If that shop only provides two products, or only has two articles, then the amount of confidence in your shop is more than likely going to be very limited.
Building The Tree Takes Time
As you add articles or products, reviews, it's like adding another cherry on the tree. And you should be able to generate good useful traffic when you have 300 or 400 articles, many of which would of course include affiliate links where visitors can buy products.
You can begin to see that every article you add provides another selling opportunity, and the more you have, the more traffic you have (Because people are searching for different things) and therefore the more you will sell. And with people visiting your website from all over the world, and having good interaction with those visitors, your rankings on the search engines will grow and overtime will begin to pay off substantially.
Let's face it, if you have 300 or 400 pages on your website, each of which is being visited by different people looking for different things. And if your keywords are accurately analyzed and very specific to the subject addressed in any article and therefore relevant to the things people are searching for then there's no reason why over time, your traffic levels wont increase exponentially. And it's at this point you will begin to seriously reap the rewards of your labor. Because traffic equals income!.
Sticking With It - Turning Up The Volume
Building an internet business is not a one trick thing. Building an internet business is not an overnight thing. There are no quick fixes!. It's something where trust has to be built with the search engine providers, content has to be of the best quality possible, relevant, and helpful and provide value to your customers. Relationships with any companies that you affiliate for need to be built and nurtured.
There are also many other skills which can be learned. And, over time, day by day this can be done. There are other associated platforms that can be integrated and leveraged to build traffic. YouTube, Social Media, PPC, for instance.
There are many Bloggers and Affiliate Marketers out there that only spend one to two hours per day working on their businesses, who receive very handsome incomes indeed but you can guarantee that they have put in the work to get their payoff. And if you stick with it and are willing to invest the time in your future then so can you!
Every article you add will increase your presence and it's not necessarily the talented ones that get there. It's the ones who keep going and understand that nothing happens overnight.
I hope this article has helped to give you a better understanding of the investment involved in starting a successful online business and bringing it to fruition. As well as some of the ways to proceed and factors to ensure success.
In general, even with plenty of work going into it, you could possibly look at a year before you would see any real substantial income from your website. But once established, momentum will take over and income can undoubtedly grow to a point where financial freedom becomes a real likelihood, if not a certainty.
And the investment becomes seriously worth it!
